Site performance improved with temporary patch
September 14, 2004
Since adding new timezone features to our book releasing and hunting pages two weeks ago, the bookcrossing.com website has been suffering from performance problems. Our programming staff has found and removed the culprit—the code which displays the release
statuses—on the the journal entry list pages.
The immediate result is that the entire site's responsiveness has been significantly improved, effective this morning. And journal entry list pages for books with more than 10 or so journal entries are no longer timing-out and throwing errors.
We plan to add back the release status indicators in a more performance-friendly manner in the next couple of days; until then, they will not be displayed as usual. Thank you for your patience as we work through these technicalities.
