We are now in Cairo, Egypt.
This project is done and now we are trying to see what community service/project we can start here in Cairo. Thanks to all who have helped in The Children of the Sea Book Project with their contributions.
Children of the Sea Book Project 2008
We would like to pass on some of the books we have read and share to other people. My children are so excited about this because we have made it as our homeschool project, thus bringing the whole thing to different level. So they have sorted their books, put
some in the "orphan box", and I am registering them under children's books as available/reserved. Back home (Philippines), we visited an orphanage (Pinagpala (Blessed) Children's Home, Laguna) and brought them a boxful of books (old and new). It taught a wonderful
lesson to my kids. Because of that experience, they wish to fill up our "release" box and donate it to an orphanage or a school library where they are really needed, especially in the the Southern area where the tsunami had left so many orphans and destroyed
school libraries.
If you would like to donate your excess children's books, it will be included and donated as soon as the box is full. We have identified 2 children's homes (the schedules are shown above). We have now
160 books registered for this project. We are excited about this since it is a 5-hour trip to the south coast and it takes preparation. We are making sure that we will give the children a happy and memorable experience.
We are very thankful to kaylihi, gingerjr, uppity, cordelia-anne, Aramena, nuttyreader, tabby cat-owner, DoveiLibri and azuki for donatin books to the Chldren of the Sea Book Project for children's homes.
About us
We are a homeschooling family from the Philippines currently residing in Sri Lanka. Our kids, ages 10, 9 and 2.5(and I) love to read/read aloud. Through the years, we were able to build up our library. The
Sonlight Curriculum(US),Rainbow Resource(US)andBetter World(US)are good sources of books and homeschool materials. We get our library
builders from these sites. A good number too are from second hand bookstores in the Philippines, local used bookstores and booth/garage sales. This bookshelf doesn't completely represent our library at home. But I will try to register them as time allows.
Visit heartwork.in.progress - our homeschool blog!
PC - books we are using in our homeschool(Sonlight and Rainbow Resource) and my own personal faves. Some will be added to the orphan box after the children are through with them.
RES ~ are mostly children's/teens books we are collecting for distribution to children's homes, orphanages and libraries here in Sri Lanka and other Third World Countries we might visit/relocate to. Other book categories are also in reserved secton for rings/rays
or controlled releases.
AVL ~ RABCKs only. More are added lately. I am trying to speed read the TBR books so I can add them here and release them right away.
TVL ~ all the controlled releases, releases in the wild, book rays/rings passed on, etc... will also include books for children's homes once they get released.
