Extended Profile
I AM JUST NOW GETTING BACK ONLINE AFTER NOT HAVING INTERNET ACCESS FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS SO MY BOOKSHELF IS HORRIBLY OUT OF DATE. I WILL BE WORKING AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE TO FIX IT, BUT WITH LITTLE ONES IN MY CARE, IT WILL TAKE SOME TIME.
I am a married attachment parenting mother of two beautiful boys, with another baby on the way (due March 2007). I hope to begin homeschooling someday. I work part time at a health food store and am very much a "nature girl". I love to learn about lots of different things. It is my dream to have a self-sufficient farm and be living off the grid within 10 years.
I love bookcrossing because I love books and I want to help the world have lots of great reading material! I love doing wild releases because to me it is an act of kindness and because it is kind of like letting a helium balloon with a postcard go (I did have one of these returned to me as a child!). It is very exciting to me.
My bookshelf as a whole is not indicitive of what I like to read. I have acquired quite a few books for the sole purpose of bookcrossing. My available shelf actually looks a lot like the stuff I liked as a teenager right now though LOL! If you are looking to figure out what I like to read, please only consider my PC and my TBR. My wish list offers a good indication of the kinds of things I like as well.
I am usually willing to do trades within the United States, so if there is anything in my Available books, or possibly even TBR (depends on the book, some are destined for my permanent collection) that interests you, ask away and chances are good that I will say yes. I am putting a hold on trading right now until I get caught up mailing out ones I owe people already, but I hope that will be taken care of in the next week or two. Quite a few of my books (I'm working on getting them all there, slowly) are also available at paperbackswap.com

Actually, if you sign up at paperbackswap.com and list me as your referring member, I will be happy to RABCK a book off my available shelf to you. Sorry, this offer is only good in the US.
A Note on Categorizing Bookcrossing Books
I am of the mind that once a book leaves my possession, unless it is done with the understanding that I am loaning it to someone, that it is no longer my book and I really have no say in what is done with it. However, I have noticed that some people are very particular about what is done with books that used to belong to them. So, in an effort to help resolve any potential problems before they exist, here are what my book settings mean to me.
TBR: to be read, and then its fate will be determined
AVL: available for trade, RABCK (don't ask or it isn't a RABCK), bookrelaying, or possible release. If you live locally and see one of these you are interested in, let me know and we can arrange to get it into your hands.
PC: Oh the controversial PC! I use this to designate anything I plan to have in my possession for a minimum of one year. It could be one year, it could be 100 years, but someday, when I no longer need it, I will pass it on to someone else in some fashion. This is different than books that are marked TBR and just end up being around for more than a year and AVL that just end up wasting my shelf space for all that time. These are books that I will be referring back to from time to time, or flat out rereading. They are books that I am not actually done with, even if I've read them cover to cover.
The exception is books for my kids. I have a tendency to mark most things (I really should get more consistant about this!) for my children as PC so there is no pressure (real or perceived) for them to hurry up and get through with a book. I want them to see reading as something fun and feel like that sense of urgency that can be created by putting something in a different category may make it seem more of a chore. I hope that made sense. If not, too bad, but don't freak out if I mark a book you give me PC, at least not without mentioning it to me so we can try to come to an understanding.
TRAV: books that I don't have in my possession that have yet to be journaled by their new person (books are like pets...they don't have owners; they have people). They may be on loan to someone, they may be in the mail somewhere, they may be in a landfill somewhere (shudder!). I don't have them though.
