Extended Profile
I'm happy to give away books--just ask. Even if it's 'To Be Read' it's likely I'll part with it. I'm coming to realise that at the end of the day, I'll probably only read a small fraction of the books I'd like to. It's too hard to wild release a book I'm
still interested in reading, but I've no problem sending it on to someone who'll get to it before I do. And, if I'm meant to read it (or it's really that important), I'll come across it again.

Books and reading have been important to me as long as I can remember. When I was very little, I used to pester my Dad to teach me to read. I vividly remember the first day I knew I could read. I was in kindergarden, and other kids were getting books to take home, but I couldn't muster up the courage to ask for one...in case they told me I wasn't ready. The day one of the teachers approached me and asked if I would like to take a book away with me, I was over the moon. The crabapple trees were in bloom, and my mother was trying to vacuum the living room but I wanted her to look over my shoulder while I read to make sure I was doing it 'right'. It didn't occur to me that I had been reading worksheets all along. Because I had a book in my hand, I was READING. I also didn't understand that even if I had mistaken one word for another, I would get the general gist of the story. How funny that I can remember this day (what I thought and how it felt) so clearly.
I have read books I wouldn't have otherwise read as a result of my involvement with Bookcrossing. I also like how wild releases can make a connection with a stranger (similar to letterboxing--see my 'homepage'). I wonder how many people actually long onto the site after finding a book, but just chose not to make an entry.
What a lovely phenomenon this is. Isn't it interesting the different ways people connect?
