My Wish List

I am an English Professor at EL Paso Community College. I teach composition, literature, research, and remedial writing. My training is in Research Psychology, Literary Criticism, Creative Writing, and Rhetoric. My English background was mentored by a Pound scholar from Johns Hopkins, a scholar who was trained under Hugh Kenner: THE Pound Scholar. Ezra Pound still fascinates me, but now I am more interested in how the modernists have influenced contemporary writers.

My greatest love is teaching returning students in remedial writing classes. It is my mission to prove to returning students that their dreams of professional improvement are attainable. There is no greater satisfaction than ending a day knowing that I have moved insecure students closer to their goals.

I am published. I have poems out there, and I won The New Voices Award in Fiction in 1991, real proud of that as it is not an easy win. Starting a family put a halt to my publishing. Raising children is just more fun than publishing stuff. Maybe in a few years, I will care about publishing again. When kids fly, desertbloom and I want to travel and live in different regions of this great country. We have a plan to make that happen.

I am co-founder of a regional conference of professional educators of community colleges who work in the border region, The Border Learning Conference, a conference of professionals striving to identify the obsticles of helping border students learn. Professionals involved with learners in border regions should feel free to contact me about this orginization.
