I love to read and have since age 4. I joined my first bookgroup when I was living in New Zealand and it was fabulous. I found myself liking the books so much more after we discussed them! I have tried to start a group in my neighborhood, but been a bit
disappointed. Often there were one or two who wouldn't read the book if they couldn't borrow it (i.e. they wouldn't buy it even it it was under $10). And then many just dropped out--too busy, etc. We need a leadership but when someone takes charge, I think
that some feel offended (this has recently happend to me). So would appreciate any ideas on how to run a club where there is some stability and everyone feels empowered!!
I think this Book Crossing idea is terrific and I'll be releasing and hunting book in my area--I've given lots to friends in New Zealand because paperbooks run from $25 to $30! We in the US are so lucky to have wonderful, well-stocked libraries and cheap books.
Right now am reading an old V.S Naipaul book, A House for Mr. Biswuth, as well as a cool NZ book Morrieson's Motel. And have to start The Reader for my little bookgroup!
