Extended Profile
I am a British person who has moved from the UK to China.

"The oldest books are still only just out to those who have not read them" - Samuel Butler

To say that I am a book fanatic is an understatement. I love to read and be surrounded by books. In the past I very rarely bought books new, most of mine came from charity shops which I love. In the UK I spent many years volunteering at local charity shops so that I could sort, price and organise their books.

My release list is not a true reflection of my taste as I have released some books that crossed my path/ got for say 20p each, but had I have no interest in reading myself. I also got loads of 'cast off's' from the charity shops.

I first discovered bookcrossing via an OBCZ when I lived in Chepstow, UK. At first I just released a few books that I had read, then used it to clear space on my shelves when I got new books. Knowing that it is possible to track the books made it easier to part with them.

I have recently moved from the UK to China. I had a big clear out, and had to cull my books but could not bear to part with all of them - there are many people who think that I am crazy for paying to ship my library across to the other side of the world (about 1000 books) - they just do not get it! The thing I like about bookcrossing is that I know that there will be bookcrossers who will read this and think 'yes, that is what I would do'.

I am usually open to book trading. If you spot anything you might like on my AVAILABLE list, send me a private message, and depending on the size of book and where you are, I may be able to send it to you. I ask is you journal the books and release them once read. All books on the available list will be eventually released as a wild release, RABCK, bookray etc. However, since moving to from the UK to China I have to be stricter about posting books as the postal costs are of course much higher. Sending a book to someone may not therefore be a possibility.

I have too many favourite genres and authors to list. I love to read, and am willing to try anything (though I am not keen on sport or poetry). I am particularly fond of science fiction, historical novels, horror, crime, the classics and a bit of chick lit when I do not need my brain to work too much. I also like to read non-fiction; particularly history (especially European or military history), travel, science and biographies of important figures from history. Since moving to China I am also keen to read any nonfiction about Chinese history or culture.

I do enjoy reading vintage books as I like wondering where the book may have been before, so have no problem in receiving old and tatty paperbacks; it is what is inside that counts.

I am trying to work my way through the list of 1001 books to read before you die, but keep getting distracted by other books. I think that one of the best things about joining bookrays/rings or choosing titles from the 1001 list is that I have stumbled across some books and authors that I would have otherwise not heard of.

In the past I only tended to put books on my wishlist if they are a part of a series that I have been reading, or by a particular author I like. Since moving somewhere where there is not an English language bookshop on every street I have started to list more books that I have an interest in reading. These include books from the 1001 books to read before you die list that sound interesting, books recommended by a friend or that I have heard about elsewhere. I am always happy to receive books, am always willing to try something new and different to what I normally read, and I will release it when finished with.

I do RABCKs and sometimes if I am about to release a book I will see if I can find someone who specifically wants it, or suprise someone found on RABCK.com.
