Extended Profile
Like many BookCrossers, I am an avid reader and find myself in a house filled with books (many unread), magazines, booktapes, etc.
I grew up reading science fiction, graduated to short stories and poetry (fondly remembered from my high school English classes), then novels, and as I age, nonfiction. Joining BookCrossing required me to believe in karma, overcome my attachment to my books, and set them free. However, I still can't let go of those books that I really, really love (like The Shipping News). Maybe that's what's preventing me from becoming one with the universe.
I am a mother of two teenagers, who have caught the reading bug as well. I attribute that to nightly readings throughout their childhoods (Harry Potter's first four books come to mind)and my ongoing additions to our home library. What better gift can a mother give to her children than something that will sustain them throughout their lifetime.
For you bookworms out there, I recommend that you rent the DVD, "Stone Reader", from your local video store. It's the story of one man obsessed with locating a writer of a novel but it's also about the love of books and reading. That's a subject near and dear to my heart.
