OK... going to try something alittle different here:

I assembled a set of 15 Books & DVDs on the environment (global warming)... as a Christmas gift I gave each of my family members one of the items from the collection... however, the actual gift was the entire collection to the entire family!... the idea being to exchange items between family members during the coming year so that by next Christmas everyone would have read/viewed each item... gonna use Book Crossing to track everyone's observations & comments :-)

The collection consists of:

The Future of Life by Edward O. Wilson
The Creation: An Appeal to Save Life on Earth by Edward O. Wilson
Ishmael by Daniel Quinn
My Ishmael by Daniel Quinn
Story of B by Daniel Quinn
Forty Signs of Rain (Book 1) by Kim Stanley Robinson
Fifty Degrees Below (Book 2) by Kim Stanley Robinson
Sixty Days and Counting (Book 3) by Kim Stanley Robinson
An Inconvenient Truth (DVD) by Al Gore
Who Killed the Electric Car? (DVD) by Chris Paine
World in the Balance - Population Paradox (DVD) by Nova
Strange Days on the Planet Earth (DVD) by National Geographic
Global Warming: The Signs and the Science (DVD) by PBS

********Added the following books to the exchange 2/9/07 *******************

Natural Capitalism: Creating Next Industrial Revolution by Paul Hawken
The Consumer's Guide to Effective Environmental Choices by Michael Brower
The End of Oil: On the Edge of a Perilous New World by Paul Roberts
The Weather Makers: How Man Is Changing the Climat by Tim Flannery
Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things by William McDonough
Powerdown: Options and Actions for a Post-Carbon World by Richard Heinberg
Plug-in Hybrids: The Cars that will Recharge America by Sherry Boschert
Stop Global Warming: The Solution Is You! by Laurie David
Limits to Growth: The 30-Year Update by Donella H. Meadows
The Lost Gospel of the Earth: by Tom Hayden

Hopefully we'll add more books as we go... and... add participants.

About the 'TheWoodman'

Ever since I was in high school, I've wanted to grow up to be a 'little ol' wooden toy maker - have a wood shop with a pot belly stove - 'n have kids dropping by to play with unusual wood games & toys... still do!! Hence the handle 'TheWoodman' but ... went to college ... served in the Air Force during Vietnam... got an MBA... spent the last 30 years in Information Systems, from systems analyst to director to consultant... raised three great kids!!! . The nest is empty... meanwhile, the lathe I bought 30 years ago is completely rusted (as in unusable) never turned it on... sad huh! ... time to start my new life!

I keep a book handy in the living room to relax (escape)... one in the TV room for commercials... one in the bathroom for undisturbed quiet time. Generally reading 'bout 2 books a week.

I love having lots of books around... just the ambiance... the air thick with all those ideas, thoughts, knowledge, ... so the shelves lined with paperbacks have double rows (another row of books behind the ones you can see)... boxes full in the attic, basement, garage, storage unit, ... :-) On the odd occasion I'd find many of those boxes missing! The kids having donated 'em to the library ... they like to see how long it takes me to notice... sometimes it's years... like when its time to move. Like now! The kids point out that I'll never read those books again... it's a waste to have 'em in boxes.. but... but... Getting rid of books, the very thought that they'll be thrown away, makes me ill... just a hollow and empty feeling inside.

Enter Book Crossing! Heard a piece about Book Crossing on CBC... ah... the solution to my dilemma! Perhaps I can find good homes for my books... where they'll be welcome... and not wasting away on my bookshelves. So... here I am!

ALL my books are available to some degree!

AVL = Anyone can make a request... would prefer trades but will freely
RABCK... and will release to the "Wild" when I work up the courage.

PC = Will loan the book... or restrict my trades/RACBK/bookrings to family
and friends (for now anyway - workin' on that courage thing).

RES = Already promised to someone or plan to start a Bookring... but I
expect it to return eventually.

TBR = Books I haven't read yet - go ahead and make the request... I just
have to move it to the top of the queue... or... work somethun' out...
may involve a delay of a couple weeks.

I've read all the books on my bookshelf (well... except the TBR) and can generally recommend each one... the one's I didn't like were purged long ago... donated or more likely just left somewhere.
