UPDATE...
As of October 15th, the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is closed for the winter. The OBCZ, therefore, is also under lock and key (and possibly several feet of snow!) We do not plan to return to work there next summer, so in true BookCrossing spirit, the books are left to fate. If anyone who's living there in the future reads this and would like to manage the OBCZ, please contact me for the passwords! -- Moody-Blue
HISTORY
Once upon a time, BookCrossing members Moody-Blue and RxBluff decided to stop being adults. They quit their good jobs in Tucson, bought an RV and moved to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon!
Whilst looking for the HR office they walked through the employee dining/rec room and Moody-Blue stopped dead in the doorway... her eyes fell upon a HUGE set of shelves, full-to-overflowing with (gasp!) BOOKS!! She thought, "Mama, I'm HOME!!!"
The next day, she spoke to the HR director about BookCrossing and he readily agreed that she could take over the management this book bounty and its welfare. A ray of light shone from the heavens and she could hear angels singing! A summer days-off project was born! Just over one month later, all 600+ books were individually registered on the site.
The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is open from mid-May to mid-October only. About 200 employees are here at any one time, but some only stay for a few months so we see upwards of 500 faces here throughout the summer. We are 80 miles from the nearest small town and being so remote, the books are well-used and appreciated by all. It's so beautiful and quiet here - a perfect place to crack open a new book!
Thanks for reading! Please PM anytime...
