After teaching high school English for 30 years and never having time to read the books I wanted to (too busy with student papers and assigned reading), I now work as a school librarian. I can't sit back and read for hours on the job, but I can browse and read ABOUT books, which is almost as good; I can still connect young readers with books; and I can go home and read whatever I want. My husband, whose passions are more active, is very patient with my ever-growing stacks of books all around the house. My favorites are mostly contemporary (Kingsolver, Irving, Eggers, Pullman, Conroy), but I'm trying to revisit some classics, which I seem to appreciate more in audio form these days. Occasionally I also work on my life project, a novel about growing up Catholic in the 50s with the expectation that the world will end any day via atomic war. Talking and writing about books are my favorite activities, so I'm looking forward to being a member of BookCrossing.
