From the back cover:
The body of a teenage girl is discovered along a desolate highway on the outskirts of Charlotte. Inside her purse is the ID card of a local businessman who died in a fire months earlier.
But who is the girl? And was she murdered?
Dr Temperance Brennan, forensic anthropologist, must find the answers. She soon learns that a Gulf War veteran stands accused of smuggling artefacts into the country. Could there be a connection between the two cases?
Convinced that the girl's death was no accident, Tempe uncovers a conspiracy that extends from South America to Afghanistan. But to find justice for the dead she must be more courageous, and take more extreme action, than ever before.

Thanks, tantan.
Not a bad read, but I do get tired of Tempe putting herself in danger & thus putting other people at risk. She's a forensic anthropologist, for crying out loud, not a cop or member of the SAS. I was pleased to see very little about Ryan, but, no, she couldn't resist it at the end. I have got to stop reading these, they annoy me too much.
If you leave out my frustrations regarding the historical character development of Tempe, her family & loves, it's probably a pretty good yarn. People new to the books & true lovers of Reichs' tales will no doubt enjoy them without the teeth-grinding. There is no doubt that the science is fascinating.

Thanks cats. This series just keeps on keeping on...
Couldn't agree more regarding the teeth grinding over Tempe putting herself in danger & thus putting other people at risk etc etc. I hadn't read one of these for many years and then read one recently while on holidays and thought "for goodness sake, not AGAIN!!". I also stopped reading the Kay Scarpetta books for the same reason, but I think these may be worse. Written for the screen perhaps??
