Summer Light

From the back of the book..."May Taylor is a wedding planner, passing on the timeless traditions of her grandmother and mother. The Taylor women have always believed in the presence of magic in everyday life--especially the simple magic of true love and family. Yet May's own faith in love was shattered when she was abandoned by the father of her child. Still, she finds joy in raising her daughter Kylie, a very special five-year-old who sees and hears things that others cannot...
Martin Cartier is a professional hockey player and sports legend. His father, a champion, taught him to play to win--at all costs. Now Martin's success veils a core of heartache, rage, and isolation. Yet Kylie glimpses the transcendent role Martin will play in May's life and her own--unless his past tears their blooming love apart..."
My thoughts...this was a light summer read. The story felt contrived and the characters were flat. I didn't really care about the characters or what happened to them.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Sending to Aberpeter in WA.
Thank you dabercro
On the cover of the book it says "The timeless magic of true love, family, and... Summer Light". I have to say I disagree. The love at first sight between May and Martin felt forced and there never was any magical passion between them. To me it felt like they met each other and then fell into a comfortable relationship. Kylie's "powers" were only present when it was convenient to move the story along. The characters were not well developed and the story line felt forced.

I'm claiming this from Aberpeter's Read and Journaled bookbox; many thanks! (While the comments aren't exactly glowing, I thought I'd give the book a try anyway - and even if I don't care for it, I have a perfect gazebo-themed release spot in mind {grin}.)
Later: The opening definitely caught my interest, with poor young Martin's horrifying secret - but once the story proper kicked in I found it didn't hold me; little details kept pulling me out of the story, and I admit I had less sympathy for the adult Martin (and love-interest May) than I did for the tormented little boy in the opening. Ah, well!

Thanks, GoryDetails - I just picked up the book from the gazebo at the Crowne Plaza this morning.
I've got a lot going on right now, and don't have time to read the book. I'm putting it back in the gazebo where I found it, in a plastic bag to protect it from today's rainy weather.
Hope someone, perhaps a hockey fan, will find it, and enjoy it.
