A World Book Night book that I was generously sent by another bookcrosser but one without a BCID number within.

This novella is a quick read but also one I find hard to review. It is written as a long monologue and tells of a Pakistani young man's early days in America but in the end I was not really impressed. In the end I could not really feel any attachment to the storyteller or really care much about him. The ending was IMHO rather unsatisfactory as it seemed to go anywhere and ultimately I felt that I learnt nothing about Muslims, Islam or the thinking within. Given that this book was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize I found it rather disappointing but then perhaps it was just me.

I decided to read this because I was going back to the hospital to see my new baby and her mum and this was quite light to carry. I got into it really quickly and found it very insightful and there was plenty to keep me interested. As 4evagreen says, it's not easy to feel any attachment to the storyteller but the other characters were well written and made me want to find out what happened to them all. Now reserved for el51e to read.

Another book received from my sister highly recommended! Added to the massive TBR pile but honestly, it's not near the top of my list! Thanks for sharing though.

So, although this book wasn't high on my TBR pile, I wanted to start a short book so thought I would give this one a go. I liked the idea of the story but I just couldn't get into it. I'm not quite sure why, but I found myself picking it up and then putting it down without reading very much or getting pulled into the story. I think this is why it took me so long to read, and because of this I don't think I was as bothered about the story as I might have been. It was an average read for me and not one that I would read again.
