Winner of the Booker Prize - from the book jacket "ten days after the war ended, my sister Laura drove a car off a bridge - more than fifty years on, Iris Chase is remembering Laura's mysterious death. And so begins an extraordinary and compelling story of two sisters and their secrets. Set against a panoramic backdrop of twentieth-century history, The Blind Assassin is an epic tale of memory, intrigue and betrayal".
Although drawn to the book by its prize winning status and the reviews on the back cover it did not really meet my expectations - a lot of jumping unclarity, intended I guess to be intriguing, but for me rather distracting . The 'twist' was no surprise at the end but it was ultimately a relief to have finished it. Rather a depressing slog to get through. Very well written of course, emotional writing, but the only emotion seemed to be a constant sad nostalgia . . . read it if you like melancholy!
