From the back cover:
"At the start of Captains Courageous, one of literature's most beloved stories of the sea, a spoiled rich boy is literally swept away -- dashed overboard from an ocean liner. Luckily, young Harvey Cheyne is rescued by a passing fishing vessel.
"As it turns out, Harvey's apparent misfortune in tumbling from the life of pampered luxury into the humble company of the fishing schooner becomes a blessing in disguise. Compelled by the captain to earn his keep, Harvey loses his affectations as he learns the rewards of an honest day's labor amid the gruff and hearty companionship of the crewmen, who teach him to be worth his salt as they fished the waters off the Grand Banks of Newfoundland.
"Readers of all pages have delighted in Kipling's engaging maritime yarn since its initial appearance in 1897. The author's only novel to unfold in an American setting, this lively tale resounds with Kipling's customary blend of adventure and humor. This attractive new edition... offers an irresistible invitation to a master storytellers enduring tale of a boy's initiation into adulthood."

Good tale about a spoiled rich boy who falls off of an ocean liner, and is picked up by some fishermen. Young Harvey falls from the lap of luxury to earning his keep by doing manual labor, and grows up to be a man in the process. By the end of the story, Harvey is now a changed young man, ready for anything that life can throw at him--stronger in mind, body and spirit.
Only problem I had with this book (and I remember this from when I was younger) is that Kipling writes in dialect, and it is sometimes difficult to follow. Otherwise, it's a good story.

Caught at Champaign Park in Taylor. Thought someone had left book accidentally, then noticed the sticker labels. This is our first exposure to Book Crossing. Sounds like a great idea. Began reading the book right there at the park. Will pass it on after reading it.
