I picked this book up for Minerva101's YA VBB.

from the back:
Mia had everything: a loving family, a gorgeous, adoring boyfriend, and a bright future full of music and full of choices. Then in an instant, almost all of that is taken away from her. Caught between life and death, between a happy past and an unknowable future, Mia spends one critical day contemplating the only decision she has left - the most important decision she'll ever make.
Simultaneously tragic and hopeful, this is a romantic, riveting and ultimately uplifting story about memory, music, living, dying, loving.

The comparisons of this book to Meyer's Twilight series is an insult to "if i stay." The characters in this novel are beautifully fleshed out and real with personailites, interests, hopes, dreams and feelings. Even the supporting and minor characters feel real - more like JK Rowling than Meyer.
Furthermore the relationships in this book are just as real and heartwarming. Forman explores Mia's relationship with her family, her boyfriend, her best friend and her music. There is nothing shallow or cliched in this powerful book about choices.

I am giving up on the book about halfway through. The writing is beautiful, the characters are well-developed and the plot is interesting. However: There is a certain central storyline in this book that reminds me so intensely of something painful that happened to me recently, that I can't bring myself to read any more. If I had known this aspect was part of the story, I'd never have chosen it. Not at all a reflection on the quality of the book though, just a personal thing! I thank you for introducing me to this author, will be checking out more of her work in the future.

(And I agree, how can you possibly compare something of this quality to Twilight?)

On the way to dutch-book as part of the Wishlist-tag-game. I had to use surface mail, so the book will take a few months to arrive.

There it is. Looks like a great read. Thanks for sending!

I've finally read it. It was a nice book, not one that made my cry, though. I would have liked some more lamentations/thoughts on the choice that Mia had to make. Sometimes it was also a bit cliched, almost perfect family, almost perfect relationship. But it was a quick read and an interesting topic.

This one is reserved for the Wishlist Tag Game.

Received in the mail yesterday. Thanks for tagging me, dutch-book! My daughter and I both had this on our wish lists so I hope she'll be able to enjoy it too. Not sure when it will resurface at the top of Mt. TBR but it is safe with me for now. Thanks again!

Read this one yesterday. It's a simple story, well told, but it didn't move me as much as I expected it to. Maybe I'm too old and tired...I think I'd have chosen differently...
