I got turned on to Nelson DeMille by reading The General's Daughter (which was made into a movie starring John Travolta). I really enjoyed his style of writing, which has a lot of irreverence in it, as well as the first-person dialogue.

Up Country is the second novel about Paul Brenner. It takes place about 1 year after The General's Daughter, and sees Brenner returning to Vietnam to solve a thirty year old murder. As Brenner becomes more involved in the investigation, he starts feeling that there is more at stake than the murder of a US soldier during the Vietnam War.

This story has a lot of intrigue and mystery. DeMille never gives away the ending too early, but there are always plenty of clues as to the ultimate outcome. His twists along the way sometimes throw you off the scent, but the writing always causes the reader to follow through. I find it very tough to put down a DeMille novel.

this novel by Nelson Demille is an easy reading low detail book. One mans journey, and adventures into places long forgotten. The scripting for the characters is exceptional, but the accuracy of the portrayal of events, is in my opinion highly lacking. My brother found the novel at an automatic teller machine. I read an inscription by the previous lender, and was intrigued. Thank you and goodbye.
