Didn't read it, as I don't speak German!!!!

Found this book next to a swimming pool in a small hotel at the town of Rethymno, in the island of Crete, Greece. That was errrrr... about 3-4 of August 2003.

In the first page there was a stamp with the name Jürgen Weinert from Jarplund...

I thought I could register it and release it as soon as possible. I think the title means "The Third Twin", so I guess it has to do with clones and stuff like that. I have heard of Ken Follett before, he seems to be a quite interesting writer.



Update:

Having some time to spare, I started searching for the owner of the book through the Internet. This way, I located the official site of the city of Jarplund in Germany.

So, I e-mailed the webmasters, and asked them if anyone knew the books' owner, explaining them briefly about BookCrossing. Someone replied, informing me very kindly that, yes, they knew a person named Jürgen Weinert (for what I understand the city must be quite small!). Anyway, they told mr that my e-mail would be forwarded. I had no news since...

Released on Thursday, April 15, 2004 at Post office in By post, Sent to another BookCrosser Controlled Releases.

The book is off to Germany. Hope you enjoy it youdid!

Got it today per mail from aris1 in "exchange" for Ein Gott der Frechheit. Thanks a lot aris1!
I will try to find out the original owner. (aris1 found it in a hotel in Crete last summer, but couldn't locate it's owner through the net.) If he doesn't want it back, I'm going to read it and pass it on.

3. Mai 2004:
Had a phone call with the oringinal owner. He told me, he already received a fax written in English by the mayor of his town. (aris1 obviously took a great effort to find out the home of this book!) The book isn't very important to them and they didn't want it back. They told me to read it and/or pass it on. I informed them, that this ist exactly what will happen to their book. I still think about writing a letter in which I would explain the idea of BookCrossing - did only mention it so far - and give the jounal-URL in case they ever yearn for the book, so they are able to look up where it stays at this moment and see if it's doing well. (Though I had the impression, the book's folks aren't very familiar in using the net.)

Habe mit dem ursprünglichen Besitzer des Buches telefoniert, der berichtetet, dass er bereits über den Bürgermeister seiner Heimatstadt ein englischsprachiges Fax erhalten habe. (aris1 hat offensichtlich keine Mühen gescheut, den Ursprung des Buches ausfindig zu machen!) Das Buch ist ihnen aber nicht so wichtig, ich solle es lesen und/oder weitergeben. ;-))) Da habe ich erzählt, dass genau das mit ihm passieren wird. Ich überlege immer noch, ob ich einen Brief schreibe, in dem ich etwas über die Idee von BookCrossing erzähle - bislang habe ich es nur erwähnt - und die Jounal-URL mitteile, nur für den Fall, dass sie jemals Sehnsucht nach dem Buch bekommen und nachschauen können, wo es gerade ist und ob es ihm gut geht. (Ich hatte allerdings den Eindruck, dass die "Familie" des Buches mit dem Umgang des Internets nicht sehr vertraut ist.)

As this book has just earned wings for aris1 and me (have a look at: Went-hunting-for-a...-books-owner!!!), I'm going to make it an international bookring - if there's anybody out there who still hasn't read it. Would be glad to have it back later as I don't know it myself. Meantime I wish the book will have a lot of fun travelling around - bet it will, it is used to as you can see here. Das Buch hat gerade !Flügel! verdient - für aris1 und mich (siehe Went-hunting-for-a...-books-owner!!!). Zum Dank wird jetzt ein internationaler Buchring draus, so es noch irgendjemanden gibt, der/die es noch nicht gelesen hat. Später würde ich mich freuen, wenn es wieder zurück kommt, da ich es auch noch nicht kenne. In der Zwischenzeit wünsche ich dem Buch viel Spaß beim Reisen - den wird es wohl haben, es ist ja dran gewöhnt. Wenn Du also Lust hast, an dem Buchring teilzunehmen - schick einfach eine PM an mich!

Yesterday I took a letter explaining the idea of bookcrossing an thanking them for their "book-donation" to the post office in order to send it to the oringinal owners. I added a BC-flyer and a print-out of the book's journal. Hope I won't annoy them and I'm eager to get a reaction at all. Surely I will report here, if I hear from them.

Habe gestern einen einen Brief an die ursprünglichen Besitzer abgeschickt, die Idee von Bookcrossing beschrieben, für ihre Buch-Spende gedankt und einen BC-Flyer und einen Ausdruck des Buch-Journals beigefügt. Hoffentlich sind sie nicht angenervt! Natürlich brenne ich darauf überhaupt eine Reaktion zu bekommen. Sollte dies der Fall sein, werde ich hier natürlich berichten.

Das Buch macht sich Heute beim Meetup in Dortmund auf den Weg.

This one's on top of my TBR pile! Excellent author, interesting story and a copy with its very special history. Just look at the nice dedication inside!

Brilliant one. A bit unsurprising, but nevertheless exciting story and I could not put it away once I started reading. I suggest you all advise your family against disturbances of any kind!

Geiles Buch! Klein wenig vorhersehbar, aber trotzdem spannend und unterhaltsam. Dies ist eines der Bücher, bei denen man sehr ungehalten auf Störungen reagiert, nachdem man angefangen hat zu lesen, warnt Eure Familie vor!

Buch heute früh wohlbehalten vom Postamt abgeholt.

So, bin durch.

Nach dem Buch "Die Säulen der Erde" ist dieses Buch eine mächtige Entäuschung!
Das ganze geht schon etwas unangenehm los, solche Sachen habe ich nicht erwartet. Gut, an einen Bret Easton Ellis (American Psycho) kommt es bei weitem nicht ran, aber ich hab halt nicht damit gerechnet.
Auf ca. Seite 100 konnte man eigentlich schon gut erahnen, wie das Buch ausgehen würde. Auf Seite 154 war die Sache dann klar. Auf dieser Seite habe ich mir ernsthaft überlegt, das Buch aus der Hand zu legen. Nur die Neugierde, ob meine Annahmen stimmen, hat mich das Buch durchlesen lassen.
Auf Seite 542 war das Buch vorbei, und es ist in etwa alles so ausgegangen, wie auf nach einem Fünftel des Buches angenommen.

Schade. Hoffentlich haben meine Nachfolger mehr Spaß an dem Buch.

Nach dem, was mein Mitmünchner geschrieben hat, habe ich ja schon mit dem schlimmsten gerechnet, aber es war dann doch ein ganz netter und spannender Krimi, wenn auch tatsächlich sehr vorhersehbar. Leichte Kost für zwischendurch halt...
Follets Schreibstil finde ich allerdings eher mittelmäßig. Die Geschichte, wie auch die Charaktere blieben doch merkwürdig blutleer und flach. Obwohl Follet sich so bemühte, die Eigenschaften der Personen ausführlich herauszuarbeiten, hatte ich immer das Gefühl, dass irgendwas nicht ganz stimmig war, oftmals unrealistisch und auch etwas arg schwarz/weiß gezeichnet.

Thrilling book, but a little bit too predictable. Slight fare for in between.
Indeed I found Follets writing style rather mediocre. The story as well as the characters stayed remarkable anaemic and flat. Though Follet strongly striven for exposing the characters' attributes, I always had the feeling that something just wasn't really coherent, often unrealistic and also a little bit too black and white drawn.

Das Buch ist gut bei mir angekommen!

Spannendes Buch. Besser ist es, wenn man überhaupt keine Ahnung hat, um was es geht. Kennt man den Hintergrund, ist doch vieles vorhersehbar. Es hat mich aber dennoch sehr gut unterhalten.

Schon vor ein paar Tagen angekommen, leider keine Zeit gehabt, einen Eintrag zu machen. Jetzt habe ich es schon gelesen und werde es bald an den nächsten im Bookring schicken.

Auf dem Weg weiter im Bookring. Mir hat es ja nicht so sonderlich gefallen - aber allmählich habe ich einfach den Eindruck, dass ich kein großer Ken Follett-Fan bin. Ich hoffe mal, dass meine Nachleser(innen) mehr Spaß daran haben werden.

Nachdem hempelssofa mit seinen Bemühungen um eine Weiterreise bislang keinen Erfolg hatte, ist "Der dritte Zwilling" inzwischen wieder bei mir gelandet. Werde mich demnächst bemühen, den Ring fortzusetzen bzw. noch ein wenig "die Werbetrommel zu rühren".

German:
Habe in Folge einer andauernden Blasenentzündung in ein paar schmerzvollen und schlaflosen Nächten das Buch endlich selbst mal gelesen. Fand es ganz spannend und unterhaltsam zu lesen, obwohl der Plots ja irgenwann vorauszusehen war.
Jetzt werde ich es wohl im forum als RABCK anbieten oder einen bookray starten.

English:
Finally I found the time to read it in few sleepless and painful nights, as a result of a persistent cystitis. It was pretty suspenseful and entertaining in my opinion, though the plot was somewhere along the way pretty predictable.
Now I think I'm goint to offer it as a RABCK in the forum or to start a booray.
