From the back of the book:

The Wilderness Years are over! --- but not for long. At the end of Bridget Jone's Diary, Bridget hiccuped off into the sunset with man-of-her-dreams Mark Darcy. Now, in The Edge of Reason, she discovers what it's like when you have the man of your dreams actually in your flat and he hasn't done the washing up, not just the whole week, but ever.

Lurching through a morass of self-help-book theories and mad advice from Jude and Shazzer, struggling with a boyfriend-stealing ex-friend with thighs like a baby giraffe, an 8ft hole in the living-room wall, a mother obsessed with boiled-egg peelers, and a builder obsessed with large reservoir fish, Bridget embarks on a spiritual epiphany, which takes her from the cappuccino queues of Notting Hill to the palm and magic mushroom-kissed shores of....

Bridget is back.

And so the book goes on its journey. Enjoy.

I have saved the stamps off the envelope for my eldest nephew who is now a stamp collector. So many of the packets I get are franked rather than stamped so he will be please with the few off of this parcel.

I am looking forward to read this. I read 'Bridget Jones's Diary' earlier this month so this has come at a great time. I saw the film of the other book first, but this time I get to read the book first and then will see the film when it is released. It will be an interesting experiment to see which film/book I preferred and if the order in which I read/watch influences my enjoyment.

I am glad that Talkland liked the stamps, hey, bookcrossing is another way to promote stamp collection for yet another generation.

I enjoyed this sequel more than I did 'Bridget Jones's Diary'. I think it was because I wasn't comparing this novel to a film which I did with the first, where I read the book after watching the movie. The thing is, I had a mental image of Bridget and all the characters from the film when read about the them in this book which I believe greatly increased the enjoyment as I thought the film was excellently cast. Bridget is delightful scatty and insecure [a little like myself] who will always need rescuing and I really warmed to her. Maybe Helen Fielding will write another book where Bridget gets married and has children as there is endless comic potential there!

I want to tell the world what a lovely lady AuntyJo is. This morning I received an envelope from Malaysia. It was immediately obvious that whatever was inside was not a book. I was very curious to see what was inside. I opened it up and there was two postcards and three First Day Covers. AuntyJo has only gone and sent through me stamps for my nephew. It was such a wonderful thought and act of kindness. I took the contents over to my sister's flat so I could give the Covers to Jamie when he got home from school. He was mega chuffed, and so was his parents who were delighted as well. What a wonderful surprise for us all and it was lovely to see Jaime's face when he got his gift. Thank you AuntyJo, what a beautiful person you are.

Helen Fielding – Bridget Jones, the edge of reason (03-048)

Typical chick lit, but to keep up to date, one has to read a lot of genres. I did read the first book a couple of years ago and was entertained, so when I saw this book ring, I decided to join it.

Her diary as before gets important stats as her weight, the number of cigarettes she smokes and the number of times she thinks of her boyfriend. Apart from that, her life has the same problems as most single women in their thirties. And we’ve all read the first book, so I’m wondering what the second book adds to that. Yet I still managed to read 30-40 pages every night before sleeping and managed to get through the over 400 pages (too much) in just over a week.

Bridget is not a very likeable person. Her troubles with her boyfriend are not special; there are too many self help books involved that it becomes difficult to come up with yet another funny title. And the book even has a happy end, given everything that happens in the book very unlikely. Somehow I fear that this book has been written with the success of the first one in mind and the possibility to turn this one into a movie has to be taken in account as well.

But after all that comment, I have got to conclude that it can’t be all bad. I did finish the book after all. And I did even enjoy some of the entries of her diary. As long as you do not expect a masterpiece, I think this can be an entertaining read. Perhaps for single ladies the story hits home more times than for me.

Sorry for writing the journal entry in Portuguese (I forgot that this book came in an international ring).

So, here it goes:
It wasn´t an easy read because of the way it is written: written language almost as like spoken language). However, as soon as I got into the story, I've found it very funny and I pictured the characters as the actors who impersonate them in the movies (I only saw the first one).

Thanks for sharing!

Got in the mail the day before yesterday. It was a v.g. surprise, especially after my "pleasant" day. To quote Ms. J, "Honestly. The lack of respect day after day is beyond human endurance." :)
I've already started reading & will send on its way asap.

2-12-2005: This book was hilarious. Especially funny to me was the magic mushroom incident (my daughter kept on wanting to know what was so funny & demanded that I read the book aloud. Alas, I could not!!) and also when Bridget was writing Christmas cards (my husband almost kicked me out of bed because of my hysterical laughing in the middle of the night).

Thescreaming is next in line, but according to her bookshelf, she's a bit behind right now. PMd her and am waiting on a response.

2-15-2005: No response back from thescreaming. PMd Gilli.

2-17-2005: Gilli says she's a bit behind also.

2-20-2005: PMd hathyia for address.

3-4-2005: PMd thescreaming, Gilli & hathyia. If no response in a week, I'll try the next person. :)

3-7-2005: Hathyia says too busy right now & will have to pass. Haven't heard back from thescreaming or Gilli, so going to PM babyimran.

4-1-2005: Oops! Maybe the email to babyimran didn't go through, so resent it. She says that she just read the book a few months ago. PMing starbytes to see if bookring is going to be opened to more BCers or if it should just be sent to westerhout. :)

4-4-2005: Heard back from starbytes & PMd westerhout.

4-14-2005: Westerhout sent her address over a week ago. Honey, I am SO sorry, but I thought I sent this book out & just saw it sandwiched in between a couple other books under my desk. AGH!!! This is going out TODAY!!

Journal Entry 23 by wingAnonymousFinderwing on Wednesday, July 13, 2005
will send it out as soon as i find out who gets it next! Am surprised to find out that the book originated from Malaysia!
