An excellent book. Bitter-sweet, sad and heartwarming at the same time. I thought it was well-written, but was concerned about the accuracy of the way in which the syndrome was portrayed (more because I felt I was laughing at Christopher at times, rather than with him). The saddest aspect was that Christopher lived in such a world of fear he had no space for humour and joy.

My opinion: Christopher lives with his dad and he thinks that his mother died of a heart disease. Christopher has Asperger's syndrome and can not stand that anyone touch him. He is very good at math but when his brain is working at full speed all the time he can not have too much noise or people around him. One day Christopher realizes that his father has lied to him and then he also found out something terrible and he gets scared.
The book written from Christopher's perspective is interesting. However, it does not entirely agree with the experiences I have of people with Asperger syndrome.

Oh wow, what a big surprise! When I came home from a looong day at university this book and candy waited for me :) But I can't really believe I won...But I sent my little something to someone else so I also can't be the decoy...confusing ;)
I really haven't read the book and I'm looking forward to reading it now! It sounds very interesting and touching...like the right book for me :) Thank you very much (And wow! You have some great stamps over there in Sweden!)

Hey, three supergood books in a row! I wouldn't mind if it continues this way ;)
And this one definitely was a highlight! At some times it was laugh out loud funny, at other times it was just SOOO sad. It's a story of an autistic boy - Christopher - who is brilliant in Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy but has issues in dealing with people. He doesn't like crowded places and he doesn't understand facial expressions, he doesn't like lies - and that's why he decides to change his life. First, he's just looking for the murderer of a neighbor's dog, but his story quickly grows to a very touching journey to finding a family, finding one's self, finding one's abilities to do things one never thought one was able to and a journey for the reader into the mass of problems a family can have with an autistic child (and vice versa).
A wonderful book! Can recommend it to anyone who likes to read something "different".
@gunmarga: I thought the book portrayed an autistic child quite okay. Of course, every child is something special and can't be totally the same as another one. With that in mind I thought it was a good portrait. I was working with a few smaller children having such issues and I could some elements here and there that looked familiar.
And of course another thank you for sending me this book! I loved it! :)
