Loved the movie so decided to read the book. Stephen King movies typically follow the books pretty well.

Decided to make this a bookray.

Journal Entry 2 by NancyJo from Sioux Falls, South Dakota USA on Wednesday, September 17, 2003
Sent to Tzurriz on September 16th. First participant in the bookray.

I wanted to get this book on its way so I started this short bookray with only 4 participants.

Tzurriz - has book now
Midwinter
Hawkette
Theresa-A
tara-K
fushmush

I added the last two names to this book January 17th. I hope the shipping will still work. If not, please PM me and I'll see what I can do. Thanks.

Journal Entry 4 by Tzurriz from Lansing, Michigan USA on Saturday, September 27, 2003
I finished The Green Mile yesterday. I LOVED it! It made me laugh and cry. John's prayer blew me away.

I don't want to ruin the book for anyone. I sincerely hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Wow. I barely put it down!

Sending it out soon.

Journal Entry 5 by Tzurriz from Lansing, Michigan USA on Sunday, September 28, 2003
Actually mailed it out today, sorry about the delay. Please enjoy the book!

I loved it, made me cry, but in a good way.

I got the book two days ago, but NaNoWriMo (nanowrimo.org) starts tonight, so I'm not going to have time to read this for a month. Passing on to Hawkette so I don't hold up the ray...

Journal Entry 7 by wingmidwinterwing from Tucson, Arizona USA on Thursday, November 6, 2003
Released via mail to Hawkette today. I'm not sure how long it will take to arrive, but the postman rolled his eyes and implied it could be a while when I asked him for a time-frame. oh dear! Hope this doesn't hold the ray up too terribly!

It's here! Gee, Tom looks very chizeled and air-brushed on the cover, doesn't he!? Looking forward to this one, have heard great things...

Journal Entry 9 by Hawkette from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Monday, February 9, 2004
This book has actually surprised me by how good it was - I mean, I have read a bit of Stephen King, but this is really quite stunning! This is a story that I have held off seeing the movie version, because I think that would spoil my reading of the book, I think that was a good call!

It's hard to make a worthy comment without ruining it for anyone who hasn't read it...but has certainly affirmed my veiws about capital punishment for starters!

Am sending this off to fushmush tomorrow, so that it can finish it's visits in Australia before travelling off again over oceans!!
Thanks NancyJo for sharing this one!

*ooops* I forgot I was on this ray. I'll have to add it to my huge bookray pile. I'm a bookray machine!

Well there is no doubt that Stephen King is a great story teller. I really enjoyed reading this although I have seen the film. I really liked the movie and it seems that it closely followed the book (with only a couple of deviations at the end). It was really hard to seperate the two and I couldn't help but picture Tom Hanks, Michael Clarke Duncan and the rest of the cast as I read the novel.

I'm glad I had a chance to read this. Thank you to NancyJo for organising it. I'm skipping Theresa-A as per her request on her profile and will send it to tara-K when I get an address.

Been wanting to read this one for a while. Liked the movie, but SK is always good to read.

This particular book's been around a bit - good to add my little bit onto the chain. Bit surprised that it's travelled so far with just a handscrawled BCID.

And that it's passed through the hands of another NaNoWriMo participant - perhaps midwinter would like to be added onto the ray?

I enjoyed this immensely. Even though I've seen the movie and there are few surprises in the plot, i enjoyed hearing the tale again, this time in King's own manner. Must see the movie again now!

Journal Entry 15 by guinevere69 from Willetton, Western Australia Australia on Wednesday, March 31, 2004
got this in the mail today
Great story, the movie really followed it well which is unusual for movieland. Great indictment against capital punishment.

Arrived today from guinevere69 in an Australia Post parcel marked "Regular Delivery within Australia" and "The satchel may not be posted to overseas destinations". Is that bookcrossers are rebels and ignore rules? Is it that Australia Post is particularly generous and flexible when it comes to bookcrossing? Whatever the explaination I am looking forward to a good read, thanks guinevere69 and all my predecessors in the ray, especially NancyJo. I might have to brush up on my geography and find out where Sioux Falls is.

Journal Entry 17 by guinevere69 from Willetton, Western Australia Australia on Monday, May 17, 2004
well I am 36 weeks pregnant, is that a good enough excuse?

Journal Entry 18 by gwilk from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Sunday, June 6, 2004
The Green Mile has bubbled to the top of my TBR list, and I am enjoying it so far. Call me a bloke if you want but my favourite line so far is "My my, ain't he the swollen and badly infected testicle." said by Bill Dodge of Percy Wetmore. That pages are turning pretty fast for me so far.

Journal Entry 19 by gwilk from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Sunday, June 6, 2004
One other thing, I seem to be at the bottom of this ray. I have never been here before. Any suggestions as to what happens next? One possibility is that I send this book to my non-bookcrosser friend who is a Stephen King fan. PM me any thoughts.

Journal Entry 20 by gwilk from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Thursday, June 17, 2004
Finished! Enjoyed!

It seems to follow the movie pretty closely - which surprises me a bit. Usually books have much more detail in them or maybe the movie was embedded in my mind so I kept on imaging scenes from the movie rahter than creating them entirely from the page?

The book touches on a few themes, including the justice of capital punishment and the nature of good and evil. These themes have probably been dealt to better elsewhere (certainly Dead Man Walking comes to mind - I'm thinking of the movie rather than the book) but the pages fly by.

Some of the supernatural elements are left unresolved - in particular Mr. Jingles. Is he something supernatural or just a smart mouse? The narrator would have you believe he is just smart but I don't buy it. Maybe an effect of the serial nature of the original book?

Enjoyed the movie, recommend the book.
