Journal Entry 1 by wingSiDiCwing from Lincoln, Nebraska USA on Thursday, September 4, 2003
First volume in the long-running "Callahan's" series.

This is actually a 1987 Berkeley paperback printing, with the original (and much better -- in my opinion) cover art from the 1977 Ace edition, rather than the cover shown attached to this BC journal.

Description from back cover:

"You got troubles? Toe up to the line, and make a toast (the toast is mandatory). Then smash your glass in the big fireplace. It only costs half a buck at Callahan's Place, and it sure can feel good. If you have a mind to talk about it, don't be shy. The regulars at Callahan's have heard it all. Time-travelers, aliens, telepaths, and a host of others have found their way here, and learned that there is only one house rule: Anything can happen at Callahan's Crosstime Saloon.

I didn't want to simply release my five "Callahan's" titles into the wild, so I decided to launch my first BookRay -- with all five books travelling together. The BookRay was announced (originally only with three books) on 10-18-2003 with the intent to mail them to the first person as soon as ten had signed up, but that number was reduced to five in November, and the books went out to the first name on the list on 12-3-2003. These books are available as a US-only BookRay.

Here's the list so far, in the order we'll follow:
fruitbat from Oregon
ladyofunicorns from New Mexico <--Stalled out since Feb 2004 with this participant
drumorgan from California
PygmyMoose from Nebraska
CGCurrie from Virginia
arugh48187 from Minnesota
snowmyst from West Virginia

PM me if you'd like to be added to the Ray...

Woohoo! I've been wanting to read these for so long and could never find copies! I agree, the cover of the edition we have is much better than the cover shown here.

Intriguing! Some cool ideas, and I really like Robinson's style (I read the introduction & foreward, too -- I do that). Will be sent along this week to ladyofunicorns (I'll make a release note when it actually gets into the mail)

Released on Friday, January 23, 2004 at to another BookCrosser in bookray, postal release USA.

I enjoyed reading this book. Spider Robinson's style is nice! I can't wait to read the other ones that came with this one. When I have finished reading them all, I will be sending them on...

Journal Entry 9 by wingSiDiCwing from Lincoln, Nebraska USA on Tuesday, March 15, 2005
The five books in this Callahan's Crosstime Saloon series BookRay have been permanently stalled at the hands of our second participant, LadyofUnicorns, of Santa Fe, NM.

If you are LadyofUnicorns, please be fair to the other BookRay members who have now been waiting for over a year for you to pass the books on to them.

If you are not LadyofUnicorns, but would like to see these books freed to continue on their journey, I encourage you to PM that user to let your wishes be known, politely but firmly.

Unfortunately, despite being sent e-mails in Summer 2004, Fall 2004 and now in February 2005, LadyofUnicorns has refused to respond to any and all inquiries regarding these books. I consider her to be a risk to all future BookRay and BookRing memberships, and warn anyone against including LadyofUnicorns in future endeavors unless s/he can get their act together. There are several other books that are parts of other BookCrossers' BookRays or BookRings which are also stalled out on this BookCrosser's shelf!

In the meantime, I'm going to do what I can to come up with additional copies of all five books in the Callahan's BookRay, to see if we can't continue to share the reading pleasure. I'll notify the next person in line if/when I'm successful.
