"Meet Rachel Walsh. She has a pair of size 8 feet and such a fondness for recreational drugs that her family has forked out the cash for a spell in Cloisters - Dublin's answer to the Betty Ford Clinic. She's only agreed to her incarceration because she's heard that rehab is wall-to-wall jacuzzis, gymnasiums and rock stars going tepid turkey - and it's about time she had a holiday.

But what Rachel doesn't count on are the toe-curling embarrassments heaped on her by family and group therapy, the dearth of sex, drugs and rock'n'roll - and missing Luke, her ex. What kind of a new start in life is this?"

This is the third World Book Night book I found (albeit all in charity shops). I am looking forward to reading this.

This was an amazing book. I didn't really know what to expect, never having read anything by Marian Keyes, but I just could not put the book down. I found the characters and the story very believable. I liked how it was told by Rachel. You really get a good feel for how deluded she is/was and the journey she embarks on to get herself better. In the beginning of the book, I thought she was very believable, but as I learned more about her - through her actions in the flashbacks - it became apparent that she was not a reliable narrator. I also liked how everyone in the novel was a bit flawed - as we all are in life - and that there were no clear good guys or bad guys.

This was waiting with a few other rings when I returned from holiday earlier today. I'll try to get to it soon, but quite a bit to do now that I'm back home! thanks so much for sending, looks interesting, and I'll have to see more about what this World Book Night 2011 is all about...

Quite different from other books I've read by this author, and I must say I enjoyed it more than some of them. Rachel's "holiday" is moving, and the various stages she goes through, with the long long phase of denial was fascinating. I presume this would correspond to reality, more or less, although fortunately I've not had any real first hand experience of it.
The writing is at times extremely witty and often moving. A good read.

This book was issued for World Book Night 2011, something I'd not heard about, so it was fun to discover that.
I have the next address and will be posting in the next day or two.

I didn't hate the book, but I didn't love it either. I found that the main character seemed to have a special position in comparisson to the other 'guests' which made it a bit unrealistic. But it was interesting reading about a not to standard chick lit theme for once.

This will be the second World Book Night book that I will read, having been sent another one by a bookcrosser in the UK.I think this must be a program that is only in Britain as I have never heard of it before. What a great idea.
Thank you Pinkoeria for sending me such a large book from such a distance. I have read books by Marian Keys in the past and I am sure I will enjoy this one. Thank you also for the fancy looking pencils you sent. I will have to try them out on my daily crossword puzzle.

I really did not like this book and I did not like Rachel. All I could think was what a silly foolish girl she was.
The language and behavior of the characters did not appeal to me but having never experienced the drug culture, I expect that it was quite true to life. A large book that I feel could have been shortened by about one hundred pages.
Thank you Pinkoeria for sending it to me. It was quite an eye opener.
