It has been a very long while since I read this book and the sequels to it. This one is interesting because few authors write about this period of non-history (or lacking history?).
My parents both read it and passed it on to me. Being a "serial" reader, I of course had to read the books that followed, though I found them much less believable. Let's face it: fiction or fact, if the author paints a brilliant enough mental image, it can be believable. Okay, maybe to me...
The descriptions of Ayla, her surroundings and the "people" she comes into contact with are images that have remained with me for over twenty years. The movie didn't even come close - Darryl Hannah or no.
