Intriguing story about life under siege in St Petersberg in WW2.
I enjoyed this book despite the bleak and terrible time of the setting, they were not dwelt upon. We know from the first chapter that the main character survives, so that assures us that whatever happens there is some hope in the book. For me the story highlighted the desperately vulnerable situation of the common people in Lenningrad when their own armed forces could have as little regard for them as the enemy.

Action read - finished it in one day
A fast paced story, with a good mix of humour and sorrow. I enjoyed the story, even though some parts were hard to stomach.
This is a book which would appeal to a wide range of readers. Historical story with plenty of action. Most informative.
