Journal Entry 3 by Csiga at Countesthorpe, Leicestershire United Kingdom on Saturday, January 19, 2013
This book was very easy to read. I was intrigued by the central character Eddie Chapman. Even now I cannot make my mind up about his motives for his activities as a double agent. Was he motivated my patriotism, his urge for excitement and monetary gain, his need for meaningful relationships particularly with men and so on. There is no doubt that he was a very brave man despite his criminal inclinations.
It was an interesting story and gave me a different insight into World War II. I was also astounded by some of the incompetence on both sides of the War. Not a book I would normally read but I am glad I did. I learnt some unusual historical facts on the way. e.g. Did you know that the Norwegian people wore paperclips in their lapels as a sign of their contempt for the German Occupation?

A fascinating story of wartime intrigue. Like Csiga, I still have no idea, whose side he was actually on - most probably his own!
