I absolutly loved this book, it was really great! I picked it up and couldn't put it down.

From Amazon.com:
SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELLING PANTS, by Ann Brashares is food for the soul that longs to read a book about falling in love, forbidden love and true friendship. The story unfolds right before summer vacation with four best friends: Carmen, the pessimist who visits her distant father; Bridget, the athlete who leaves for soccer camp; Lena, the quiet beauty who visits her grandparents in Greece; and Tibby, the rebel who is stuck in their hometown with a boring job at the drugstore. Right before summer, Carmen buys a pair of pants at a thrift store. Surprisingly, these pants fit each of the four friends perfectly. The night before they begin their magical summer, they make a promise to each wear the pants and then send them with letters describing their adventures while wearing them.

Journal Entry 2 by Jas330 from Lakewood, Washington USA on Monday, August 11, 2003
Plan on starting a bookring with this book and it's sequel, The Second Summer of the Sisterhood. Please note that the sequel is a hardback book.

I got this idea from Banana, and would like to do it with this book and the sequel. Please read this before deciding to join the bookring, I would not want you to sign up and not be willing to do this. I quoted what she posted, pretty much word for word, with a few minor changes.

"As I was finishing the book, a thought occurred to me! If we could keep some sort of traveling documentary about the book like the four girls do about the pants, then each person who receives the book will be able to look back on all the other people who read the book prior to them and learn a bit about every other person. Simultaneously, everyone will be able to send a “piece of themselves” away with the book for the next person to enjoy! (You see, I just graduated from college and this is my first semester in six years that I haven’t had to take a class...so now I’m
creating projects for myself. Go figure.)

Anyway, here is what we will do (don’t worry, it won’t take long...I promise). Between the time you receive the book (and read it of course) and the time you send it on it’s way, attach a little sticky note (tape it in so it won’t fall out) to any blank space in the book. It can be ANYTHING! Quotes, poems, comics, pictures, recipes, jokes, SHORT stories (don’t forget it’s an index card), words of wisdom from you or someone else...the sky is the limit (but please make sure you keep it clean just in case a young pair of eyes come across this book). The only requirement is to put your name (either real name or screename from bookcrossing) on the upper right hand corner of the sticky note so we will know who contributed what. As the book goes on, more and more will be added....and it will be just like our own pair of pants (that magically fit everyone! The best kind!)

Furthermore, both because I am a geek and I was inspired by the little “rules” set out by the sisterhood, I came up with a little set of “rules” to govern the book. Don’t worry...there’s nothing too bogus. It’s all pretty common sense save for adding the little sticky notes to the pages...but I thought you guys would get a kick out of it! I’m enclosing a copy of the rules with this journal entry as well as with the book. Should you guys have any other questions about this spontaneous idea, please don’t hesitate to PM me! Thanks you guys!!! I think this will be a
huge success (and really cool little project!)

We, the bookcrossing.com book ring, hereby instate the following rules to govern the use of THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS and THE SECOND SUMMER OF THE SISTERHOOD...

1. Between the time of receiving the book and when the book is released, you must add your sticky note contribution (taped in). Please do not cover up any of the writing from the book, if you are refering to a certain page, please note that on the sticky. Any blank area is fair game.

2. This book is for reading purposes, not to be used as a step stool, bug squasher, or other form of lethal weapon.

3. It’s summertime! Quit complaining and do something fun!

4. Do not remove anyone else’s sticky note for any reason!

5. Even though the girls in the book refuse to do so, you must wash your pants (and other articles of clothing) on a regular basis. Failure to comply will result in a hideous odor that will force others to avoid you on purpose causing much trauma for all involved.

6. You may use these rules as a bookmark while reading this book, but please put them back where they were found upon completion.

7. Do not take the little things in life for granted.

8. No matter how strong the urge may be, you must not skip around and/or read ahead in this book. (Besides, the story is better that way and reading ahead will probably cause confusion.)

9. Do not pick nose and wipe snot all over pages of the book. It’s really disgusting and may prevent others from reading vital information.

10. Remember: bookcrossing.com = read/release books = come across the one book you have been waiting for = HAPPY PRESENT!"

Please PM me if you are interested in joining the bookring.

Journal Entry 5 by reader1212 from Federal Way, Washington USA on Friday, September 5, 2003
Ok, I finished the book this morning and can I just say that I could not put it down! I can't wait to receive the second one, which I am in another ring for.
I will be sending it on in the next couple of days....

Finished reading last night. A very cute & entertaining book. Put in the mail this morning to 6hugs in Utah.

Journal Entry 9 by 6hugs from Eagle Mountain, Utah USA on Sunday, October 5, 2003
I got this book in the mail a week ago. I couldn't log on until I took care of the virus on my computer. I'm half way done with the book already. And will journal again. Thanks! Also, the book didn't come with any of the rules or other quotes except for Jas330's. But I will put something in there. Thanks for passing the book along alsgal!

Journal Entry 10 by 6hugs from Eagle Mountain, Utah USA on Saturday, October 25, 2003
Mailed out to roadrunner 2 days ago. Happy reading!

Journal Entry 11 by roadrunner from Spring, Texas USA on Thursday, October 30, 2003
i returned from a short vacation to find a pile of books waiting for me. I'll get to this asap and send it on its way! Thanks Jas330 for sharing!

Journal Entry 12 by roadrunner from Spring, Texas USA on Friday, November 7, 2003
This book was a very pleasant surprise. I was expecting something along the lines of Bridget Jones' Diary For Teenagers but it had much more depth than that. She got all of the teenage angst and confusion just right. I even shed a tear or two at the end! I'm looking forward to the sequel and the continuing adventures of the pants. Thanks Jas330 for sharing!

Journal Entry 13 by roadrunner from Spring, Texas USA on Friday, November 7, 2003
The pants are on their way to Casseytara! Enjoy!

Journal Entry 14 by wingAramenawing from Noble, Oklahoma USA on Thursday, November 13, 2003
Received yesterday - yay! Cassey has already started reading it, and as soon as she is done I will take my turn!

Journal Entry 15 by wingAramenawing from Noble, Oklahoma USA on Monday, December 1, 2003
I finished it just before the Thanksgiving holidays. Cassey and I both enjoyed it - as soon as she finished it she said she can't wait to read the sequel. At first I thought it was just another teen book, but as I got into the stories I got hooked. I especially enjoyed Lena's and Tibby's stories. But I liked the way Bridget's story played out - realistically! I'm printing out the rules and putting in the book, and then it's on it's way to Missouri!

Journal Entry 16 by alrescate from Strafford, Missouri USA on Friday, December 5, 2003
Well the traveling pants have made it to Missouri...the book had a hard journey but it is basically safe and sound. I'll start reading this right away & journal again when I have finished.

Journal Entry 17 by alrescate from Strafford, Missouri USA on Friday, December 12, 2003
Whoops. I logged on to let everyone know that I was mailing this on to Alaska and realized I hadn't made a journal entry yet. Sorry! I did enjoy the book...it is a sweet coming-of-age story. I can't help feel a bit ancient after reading this but I did have enough vague memories of my youth to be able to relate somewhat to the characters.

Also...I know we are adding quotes on post-it notes but is the one that says "Please deposit in WLC operating acct." supposed to be in there? ;-}

Journal Entry 18 by havfaith from Spokane, Washington USA on Wednesday, December 31, 2003
Just received from alrescate! Can't wait to start this one! I have a few others to finish first but it shouldn't be long. =)

Thanks Laurali for the postcard! A little green this time of year really is appreciated! =)

Journal Entry 19 by havfaith from Spokane, Washington USA on Tuesday, January 6, 2004
This was just what I needed to get back into reading again! I've been in kind of a slump book-wise the past month. I keep picking books up, reading a few chapters and then never finishing them... I started this today and am half-way through right now. I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far! =) Should be heading on its way by the end of the week!

Journal Entry 20 by havfaith from Spokane, Washington USA on Thursday, January 8, 2004
Finished this last night! =) What a good book! It's nice to see non-drivel written for teens! Reading this brought back great memories from high school and made me want to get in touch with a few people I've lost track of over the years since. =) I may have to find a copy of this to pass around to my friends' teenage girls (and their moms!). Can't wait to read the next one!

Thank you, Jasmyn, for sharing this book!

Will be in the mail to Aannddee today. Hope you enjoy it! =)

Forgot to journal when this first arrived mid-week last week. I'm already through half of the book, and anticipate sending this on it's way by the end of the week. It has been a light and enjoyable read so far!!

Journal Entry 23 by aannddee from Arden Hills, Minnesota USA on Monday, February 9, 2004
I have finished this book, and found it to be a light read. While I am way past the ages of the characters in this book, I frequently found myself reliving some memories and feelings I experienced when that age.

I am just waiting to hear back from FranciJo so that I can send this on to her.

Journal Entry 24 by aannddee from Arden Hills, Minnesota USA on Tuesday, February 17, 2004
Sent on to francijo today.

Journal Entry 25 by FranciJo from Waco, Texas USA on Thursday, February 19, 2004
Arrived in the mail today. Debating whether to take it on the road with me, or leave it here so it doesn't get lost... will probably take it to mail from the road so it doesn't get held up here too long.

Thanks!

Journal Entry 26 by FranciJo from Waco, Texas USA on Monday, March 8, 2004
Got back from vacation last night and started reading this morning. Finished this afternoon. A good book that reminded me of youth and summer and how small things seemed so important then.

Will send it on its way as soon as I get an address from the next person on the list.

WooHoo.... arrived safe and sound here in Mississippi! Looking forward to reading this one... I did flip thru and read everyone's "sticky note"... I just counldn't resist... (I sometimes eat my desert first too ;)

Journal Entry 29 by mississippimom from Olive Branch, Mississippi USA on Wednesday, April 7, 2004
I give this one a big '9'
Cute little book... I laughed and cried... I usually read at work on breaks and at lunch, but I couldn't take this one to finish... I didn't want to be crying at work and have to explain to everyone that it was not trouble at home, but the "traveling pants"... (I cry at movies too; both happy and sad)

My little quote reads "Friends celebrate the things they have in common and delight in the things that make them different!" I found it on a greeting card and think it applies to our BookCrossing community too!

I've pm'd pchemphd for her mailing address and will try to get this in the mail to her Saturday!

Thanks again to Jas330 for starting this bookring!

Journal Entry 30 by mississippimom from Olive Branch, Mississippi USA on Saturday, April 17, 2004
Well... I've pm'd Pchemphd twice for her mailing address and have yet to receive a response so today I'll pm LeapingLizzards who is next after Pchemphd and see if I can just send it to her... maybe we can catch Pchemphd later in the bookring.

Or Jas330 if you want me to do something else, just pm me.... I just hate for such a wonderful little book to sit here being neglected.

Journal Entry 31 by mississippimom from Olive Branch, Mississippi USA on Sunday, April 18, 2004
Well.. I've pm Pchemphd a third and last time.. if I don't hear from her by next Saturday, I'll put this in the mail to LeapingLizzards... she has already pm'd me her mailing address...

This is such a good book and a cute idea with everyone's little sticky notes! I certainly want everyone to get a chance to read it that signed up for the bookring! and I hope there's nothing seriously wrong with Pchemphd.

This books goes in the mail Saturday for sure....

What a great book! As soon as I started reading it, I couldn't stop. It's wonderful. I was a bit sad at the end although, can't say why, don't want to be a spolier.
I can´t wait to read the sequel :)
Since the messages on Ench and Theresa-A shelfs say that they don't want to receive any rings/rays, I'm sending this book to Katayoun.

Journal Entry 37 by katayoun from Tehran, Tehran Iran on Monday, October 4, 2004
the book and oh so many other things with it is here. seems the ring is nearing an end and it looks like it wants to go home, i think i'll sneak in this between other reading material (not that i REALLY want to read this :)) thanks Jas330 and you should see all the sticky notes, though i must say that i'm a bit disappointed that i can't "pick nose and wipe snot all over pages of the book", ahh well :)
and also thanks Fflloorr, everything is just great, am wearing my necklace and the beautiful cat card is stuck to the computer (i love cat cards :)) and the guide book is just great. i always knew that portugal is a beautiful country and from the lovely portuguese bxers that i have come in contact with now i know that it's not only a beautiful country but also host to the most beautiful and wonderful people. thanks!

Journal Entry 40 by booksnwine from Medowie, New South Wales Australia on Tuesday, November 23, 2004
This exciting looking book and its wonderful sticky notes arrived in the post recently. I was away overseas at the time and my husband was quite surprised and completely confused about it. Now, I just need to find time to read it, and given that it's coming into Summer in my part of the world I'm sure I'll find it even more appropriate.

Journal Entry 41 by booksnwine from Medowie, New South Wales Australia on Monday, March 28, 2005
OK, so I have to admit that it has taken me far too long to find the chance to make this journal entry. I received the book late last year and read it over my Christmas holidays. It was a fantastic read and I loved the idea behind it. Even though I am well past the age of the four girls, I am still very close to some of the friends I made in high school, and it really brought back memories of some of the most innocent and exciting times of my life. When I get the address I will pass it back to Jas330 and the ring will be complete.

Journal Entry 42 by Jas330 from Lakewood, Washington USA on Monday, October 10, 2005
I got this book back in the mail. I'm so glad that it went all the way around the ring and made it back to me. Thank you to everyone who participated. I'm not sure what I'll do with it now, maybe start another ring with it?

Journal Entry 43 by macewoman from Winston Salem, North Carolina USA on Saturday, January 6, 2007
I've seen the movie, but heard so many times that the book is better that I really wanted to read it. I also have copies of the next 2 books, so I've been waiting to read them until I had read the first one.
Thanks Jas330, for sharing this well-traveled, much-loved copy.

Journal Entry 44 by macewoman from Winston Salem, North Carolina USA on Monday, January 8, 2007
So many details from the movie were fuzzy because it has been so long since I saw it. Once again I agree that the book is even better. It has been a long time since I was 15 and I expected to feel disconnected from these 4 girls. I was pleasantly surprised to realize that those feelings aren't restricted to the under 20 crowd. I might not react as if something is the end of the world, but it can still affect me deeply. It has made me miss some of the friends I made so long ago and haven't seen since.
I also enjoyed all of the quotes and postcards. While I'm waiting on news of how to proceed, I'm going to search for my own quote to include.
Thanks Jas330 for taking a chance and sending this book out into the world again.

I received this in the mail today, along with a surprise RABCK of this same book from another BCer! So I'll contact Glauber for an address and send this copy on its way.

Edited on July 28, 2007 to add:
This is the sort of book that keeps me up late finishing it, which is why I didn't get to bed till 4am this morning, as I picked it up at 1am to read a few pages before falling asleep. An excellent portrayal of teenage girlhood and families. The only thing that bugged me was how the author wrote Carmen as the stereotypical Latina with the outrageous temper. I really liked Carmen, but felt that the author could have done better by that character. Not that Carmen didn't have things to be mad about, but it just didn't sit quite right with me.

Journal Entry 47 by katintheboots on Saturday, February 3, 2007
I added my quote and sent this to Glauber on Thursday via media mail.
