My thoughts on the book;

Not read by me, but this was either bought as part of a bulk-buy "10 for £1" offer at a "withdrawn" books sale at Chelmsford Library, or as part of a bulk-buy "two books for 50p" charity shop deal, or left at our staff canteen along with other books people had finished with; or has been "donated" to the BookCrossing cause (or "your Book Travelling-thingy", as he calls it) by my dear Father.

The attached journal image should give you an idea which one of those sources this book came from. ;-)

"Amazon.co.uk Review;

Stephen King has been for so long the master of the thick blockbuster horror paperback that it is salutary to be reminded of the quieter writer of shorter, tighter stories that he also is. His new novella could hardly be simpler--a nine-year-old girl, smart and resourceful, gets herself lost in the deep woods when she strays off the path for a moment and struggles to survive with a little food, not especially sensible clothing and a Walkman. One of the threats dogging Trisha is her imagination--she is an smart enough child to know how much trouble she is in and gradually to personify the wasps, and midges and dangerous animals, as a God of the Lost. And that imagination is also her strongest resource--she has a baseball cap signed by the Red Sox pitcher Tom Gordon, which becomes her talisman. This is a story of almost pure sentiment and suspense; King has always had fascinating insight into the minds of children and a command of detail that makes him the ideal writer of certain sorts of shipwreck. The almost minimal material here--a single character, what she has on her, and deep woods--make this one of his most gripping and compulsive tales. --Roz Kaveney .

Product Description;

'The world had teeth and it could bite you with them anytime it wanted.' Trisha McFarland discovers this when she is nine years old. Trying not to be terrified. Trying not to think that sometimes when people get lost in the woods they get seriously hurt. Sometimes they die. In Trisha's panic to get back on the track, she takes turnings which lead her deeper and deeper into the woods. The only thing that keeps her going is her Walkman on which she listens avidly to Red Sox baseball games, creating an imaginary friendship with her hero Tom Gordon. And as she struggles for survival and a way out, she realises she’s not alone. There’s something else in the woods - and it’s watching her...

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

I'll be leaving this book on the self-service "reserved books for collection" shelves inside Chelmsford Library, for my BookCrossing buddy, Angelslater to collect. ;-)

The shelves are just to the left of the "Hello" desk, and customers with books to collect simply walk up, look for the section for the first letter of their surname, find their book in it, and take it off the shelf. The books remain on the shelves for 10 working days or so, and once this time is up, they are usually taken off again by the library staff and put back into the system.

I will leave this book in the "Y"-section, wrapped with a piece of paper labelled "YOUKAY, J" and "25/5", which is a day / month date for two weeks ahead of the release date or so, to fit in with the others on the shelves. I will try and check back regularly, and when it gets taken / disappears, I'll update the journal for it accordingly. I'll definitely check it just before the date written on it and if it's still there at that point, I shall remove it myself.

I've marked the journal image I've uploaded above and to the left here with a red circle to highlight exactly where I'll be leaving it.

This is an ex-library book too, meaning it'll blend in even more with the others on the shelf, and as it's been withdrawn and purchased outright by me, the RFID tag within it has been "killed" by the library staff, and I can guarantee you taking it off the shelf and out of the library without "checking it out" or doing anything else with it WILL NOT trigger any alarms (I've walked out with it, and back in again twice, with no problems, just to confirm it).

This is my latest idea to try and give fellow BookCrossers subscribing to Chelmsford release alerts more of a chance to get my books;

I'd heard from one who was frustrated at getting the notification for releases in their "Daily Digest" email hours after the books have been released, meaning there would be little point in trying to hunt them down, as they'd have already "long gone" from their public release point.

This way, I'm hoping that only someone getting the alerts will get it, as it won't be "visible" to anyone just passing, if you see what I mean.

You can see the library's location on this Google Maps link;

http://goo.gl/maps/fgzq.

It'll also have a yellow "PICK ME UP" note stuck on its front, just in case someone else does pick it up or for the finder's re-use, if wanted.

To the finder of this book:

Welcome to BookCrossing, a unique community of book lovers, sharing their libraries with the world. This book is now yours to read, enjoy, and keep... but why not pass it on to another reader or better still; "wild release" it again, so it can continue it's journey? The BookCrossing ID, which you entered in the "Enter a BCID" box on the website, is unique to this copy of this book. If you make a journal entry (either anonymously, or as a BookCrossing member) all previous readers of this actual book will be notified by email, and can follow the book as it travels around from reader to reader.

BookCrossing is free to join, completely confidential (you are known only by your screen name and no one is ever given your e-mail address) and a great deal of fun. Be on the lookout for other books left in the "Wild"!

If you decide to join, consider listing JamesUK (or any of the other journalers) as referring you.

Microsoft Office Word Label and Bookmark Templates;

A lot of us BookCrossers use sheets of shop-bought sticky labels to put the BCID numbers on our books, myself included. I've made up several BookCrossing label templates and other bits and bobs in MS Word, and if you would like any of them, drop me a Private Message with your requirements, and I can directly link you to what might be suitable for you.

See http://www.fishchipsandmushypeas.co.uk/bc/ for everything I have on offer, all for free download and use.

Templates are all available in a wide range of label sizes and label brands.

I also have a sheet of basic bookmarks with the BC logo and "mail merge" versions of some of the Microsoft Word Banner labels templates too.

I can probably replicate any label layout fairly quickly into a different sheet layout, so tell me what you need.
