I had heard that this book was wonderful, and had in fact bought a new copy two years ago to send to a Bookcrosser in America, Time-traveler, as a Secret Santa present. Since then, I'd been hoping to come across it, so was delighted to find this copy, and to discover that it was being made into a mini-series.
I hoped to read it before the series came on television, so started it last year. I'm afraid I didn't enjoy it at all, as it is written in the style of a chapter book for 10-year olds, but with longer words thrown in to make it sound more grown-up. I gave it up after a few chapters, as I couldn't see myself struggling through another 1000 pages. I didn't bother to watch the television series, either, although I may do if it comes on again.
Don't let me put you off, though. I've heard of lots of people who absolutely love the book. It's just that I know I've got some much better ones on my shelves waiting to be read, and I'd rather read those!
