From the back cover: When Polly Evans read a survey claiming that the last bastion of masculinity, the real Kiwi bloke, was about to breathe his last, she was seized by a sense of foreboding. Abandoning the London winter she took off on a motorbike for the windswept beaches and golden plains of New Zealand, hoping to root out some examples of this endangered species for posterity. But her challenges didn't stop at the men.....

I really enjoyed this book, great description of NZ but also entertaining comments on the people as well.

Thanks for the book bronwyna and tupaismum! I will find an appropriate person/location to leave it with in NZ in November. I have read this book before and here is my previous review
"This was an amusing book and kept me entertained throughout. The story was not particularly riveting nor the writing exceptional, but I did want to keep reading to find out what she thought of places I had visited. I was particularly interested in her time on Stewart Island and was relieved I had not bothered to do the night search for the elusive Kiwi.
The underlying story throughout was the search for the elusive genuine Kiwi bloke, someone who was not affected by the SNAG (sensitive new age guy) principle. She found several candidates but they were all marred by one or more sensitive characteristics!
Her telling of the early days of her diminutive self on the massive Suzuki 650 were quite amusing! She took us to very unusual tourist destinations – most of which were definitely off the beaten track".

Have just immigrated to NZ and am currently travelling around in search of a home town. An interesting read about a trip around the country ... although I don't think I shall be following her lead and hiring myself a 650cc motorcycle any time soon! Thanks for the read though, not brilliantly written, but entertaining enough.
