I picked this up as a book I could travel with. I'd read the others in the series and found them interesting mostly for their speculations about prehistoric behaviour and civilization. Auel's no stylist, that's for sure - in fact, this book is probably the least well-written of the bunch so far. But it's an easy read, you pick up a few cool factoids along the way, it's engaging enough, and it's possible to read just a few pages, put it down mid-sentence, and then pick up again for a long bus ride.
