Book arrived yesterday. Thank you for sending it oppem!
I enjoyed reading this book quite a lot, Michael was a very likable character and the fact that the book tells us about Hanna's life before telling us about her crime made me unable to judge her and not like her especially as she seems like such a proud and strong woman, the kind I like.
I'll send the book out this week.

On its way to Romania.
Just picked it up from the post office. Thanks oppem for organizing this BR and Jujuks for mailing it to me :)
I'm excited about reading it and I'm sure it won't be long 'till it's on the move again.

I had to stay at home today and couldn't resist reading what I had left of the book. It was simply astonishing. I had already seen the movie, but it's always better to see it put in words than in images.
What I found most impressive was to realize I could not judge, but neither entirely absolve Hanna of her guilt. Such a trajectory is simply beyond good and evil. A movie just presents events; the book has deeper insights. And the way to use numbness, apathy and indifference as psychic states is so beyond the pathetic that usually overwhelms moral dilemmas.
Thanks for sharing this one with me. I have PMedE-sr Rach-489 and will send the book on within a few days from receiving her address.

On its way to Rach-489. Happy reading everyone!
Received this is the post today. Will get onto reading it asap!
Really enjoyed this novel, far more then I had anticipated after watching the movie. I found myself sitting on the fence regarding the morals of the story much more and enjoying the gray areas rather then the black and white, right and wrong that is normally associated with war atrocities.
Have PM's 2012 for an address to get this sent along.
edit: 2012 wishes to be skipped. PM'ing iwillrejoice.
Update May 2011 - No reply from iwillrejoice after multiple PM's. Will try next person on list.

I found this book very powerful and sad on so many levels. Set in post World War II Germany, Hannah, a 36-year old woman helps Michael, 15, when she finds him ill on the street. Their relationship develops into a sexual relationship. And, then, suddenly Hanna disappears.
Michael happens to be a law student attending a trial for war crimes, where Hannah is one of the defendents. He is suddenly faced with his past and how to handle his feelings for Hannah. I was struck how his teenage relationship colored his entire life thereafter. He married for a short time, but could never come to terms with his past and thus divorced rather quickly.
It was a riveting story - from beginning to end. I look forward to seeing the movie.
I've PM'd the next person on the list and will send it along as soon as I have her address.
