Having aimed high, having strode beneath New York with a can of Mace from her father, and with a heart and head ready to listen, (Toth) has brought back a book of stories that no one else has told - a book that is honest and above all, loving, to people who are nobody's friends. We should all do so well.

Because of my family history this was not an easy read for me but I'm glad I read it and it will stay with me for ever. No-one with an ounce of humanity could fail to be affected by this book.

Picked up from the monthly meeting at the Layer Fox. It looked interesting as I flicked through it.

A fascinating book about people who may live underground in New York. A journalist follows groups at the margins of society. Having read round the subject there is some doubt about the truth of all the stories here, but the author has clearly spoken with people that have left an impression. Worth a read, may be a little out of date now as it was written in the early nineties.

I've read this despite myself, even though it sounded to much like work. It's good, varied, and penalty very much valid still.
