I recently picked up A Million Little Pieces from my sister after she picked up two copies of it and suggested I read one. I was and thought I never would be into reading books, especially in high school, but after reading this book whenever I could it changed the way I see books. James Frey gave vivid descriptions of the problems he encountered in the rehabilitation clinic.
One of my favorite parts in the novel was the trip to the dentist. I was able to see every single little detail the explained from the sheer pain of having his caps done without any form of numbing. The flashes of light and the curling of his toes gave me a definite feel of the intense pain. I was nearly holding my breath reading through the scene. Along with that was a scene of a dream of himself fueling his addiction and spiraling into it. I could see and feel every emotion that was running through his body.
Most of the book contains all acts of violence, sickness, fear, and even love. I was not expecting to be as addicted to the story as I was and I will reading it a second time. Even after reading a few more novels on addiction, not one come near to the way that James Frey describes it. His sense of being an individual consist of ignoring the rehabs use of the "Twelve Steps" program or believing in a "Higher One."
I really enjoyed A Million Little Pieces and it is definitely a reread. I am sure that no one else is will have trouble enjoying this book as I certainly did.
