received from a friend who sang its praises. It is excellent, but boy is it heavy, and taking ages to read.

It has taken me months to read this (+900 pages). A gripping story of an escaped convict and heroin addict who falls in love with Bombay (and a woman), someone who lives from crime but has goodness in his soul. Well written, profound and sometimes sublimely poetic. Reading it is like being swept along on a tidal wave of excrement and diamonds.

Wow!
It took me a while (the book is quite long...) but it is just unbelievable what Lin does, feels, experiences, survives...
Very nice language, amazing plot, stunning story, interesting characters...

Everybody should read this!

Thanks again, over the moon, for sharing!

I had some troubles getting into the book. But then, it was a page turner until the last fourth, where I didn't care that much about the story anymore.
