Pretty good book but not as good as I'd expected considering the fuss surrounding it this last year. Is an unusual experience and uses some interesting concepts to tell a somewhat disturbing story.
I can't really say I enjoyed a lot but I think I will not forget it so soon.
Anyway it is well written and will give you "food" for thought for some time to come.
Is especially moving for those who have lost a loved one too soon...

Got it in first hand at Jardim da Beira Mar in Setubal. Let's read it and see...

Well, in the end I didn't cry at all while reading this book, but its story I will not forget anytime soon. A story about death, sadness and grief, but especially about life and the healing power of time. Of all things, I really liked the idea of Susie's heaven - an interesting concept and better than most :-)
Will try to pass this on to letra sometime soon.

Recebi-o ontem, da tho, no Encontro do Atrium.
Já o comecei a ler...com os lenços de papel por perto...

Sad story... terrible ending.
I was quite curious about this book. Some people telling me it was very good, and on the other side, I read some comments here at bookcrossing saying it was nothing special.
My friends were telling me not to read the book, because I had the recent death of my father (7 months ago), and I could be impressed with the story.
Well, I don't live in a shell, so one night, going to the movies, I saw "The Big Fish"...and that was HARD to see. I ended in tears. So after that, I though nothing could touch me more.
I think The Lovely Bones starts very well, with a good story, but it looses sence, specially, at the end. I would just take chapter 22 away! It ruins the book.
Loved that idea of heaven, it's not far from what I have in mind.
And I only felt the tears in my eyes when they had to tell Susie's younger brother that she was gone. That was the part that touched the most.
Last weekend, my niece, who is four years old, came to my house, saw a picture of my father and asked me: "Do they take pictures of grandfather in heaven?"

This book is now with me. I've been officially swamped with BookRings and BookRays so please bear with me! :)
When I started reading this book I heard many different comments about it, some said it wasn't really worth all the hype, while others said that it was wonderful though I'd need a lot of tissues to get through it. In the end I really enjoyed reading about Susie's sad story though I have to confess I'm not one to cry with books. So I saved on tissues! :)
It was interesting seeing how Susie's family learned to cope with her disappearance and how her brother and sister were able to help their parents a lot more than they helped them. I wasn't at all happy with the way Mr. Harvey ended up, in my opinion he deserved a more severe punishment. And I agree with micazy about removing Chapter 22 it goes against the story and it doesn't make any sense!
I'm now curious about Lucky, Alice Sebold's other book. :)

Leitora seems to be too busy to receive this BookRing at the moment and haloababy didn't respond to my PM, so this book will be going in the mail tomorrow to Xanocas. Enjoy! :)
Received at the beginning of last week (sorry for the delay).
I will read it asap (have a few books to read first).
Thanks!

It's a wonderful book. A beautiful and emotional story (sometimes a dificult read - it's always hard to know that a child died before its parents).

Bastante perturbante e bem escrito. Segue amanhã para a Witchie.
I got this book a while ago (sorry for posting so late...). Meanwhile, I finished it. I quite liked the book, but I don't think I can understand all the fuss around it, in the last year or so.
The book, because of its theme, could be quite a sad one. And it was, from times to times, but it turned out to be much lighter than I expected. It made me think about many subjects that were somewhat secondary to the book. I thought a lot about how things we do affect many people, not only the person directly implied. And we almost never realize that...
The book made think and "see" the hard process of overcoming hard, hard times. I've never been there (and hope I'll never be!) but I'm sure it is the hardest thing, to loose a child. To overcome that grief must be as hard. And to overcome that without ever forgetting, without ever being able to forget is a process even harder. And we got to learn a little about that.
Thanks, PreciousArwen, for the chance to read this book.

I’ve finished reading the book and i enjoyed it very much.
I specially liked the standpoint from which the whole book is written and although the story is pretty dramatic there is always a glimpse of hope, a positive side to it, at least in my opinion.
The Lovely Bones made me think of several things, on the existence of afterlife (or not), the problems one must overcome to deal with the death of a loved one and how different people can react to it (each deals with it on their own way).
For all the reasons stated above it was a true pleasure to read this book, so many thanks to PreciousArwen for the opportunity.
It will now be passed to the following BC, dangerouswoman3.

Recebi-o do Safekeeper.Prometo ser breve.
The Lovely Bones is about Susie watching her family and friends heal and finding their way back to being connected with one another. It is about restoration of a family after it is devastated.
The images and feelings elicited in this novel are ones that speak true and are hard to forget, and although the novel's tone is unsentimental, the events in the story are no less emotional for it.
Another way that this novel surprised me is the way the story moves along, partly because the language is so beautiful and partly due to the narration style. Susie narrates by mixing in events about things that happened before she died so that we can see how the family was when she was still there; and at the same time, she keeps the day to day, year to year events moving along, so that we can see the progress the family makes in accepting her death. Because there are so many people that Susie tells us about a lot of things happen in the novel, much of adding a mild suspense. The best part is how easy it is to like her family and friends. And the ending is surprisingly satisfying. And after the book is read, it's like what Susie says about her and her family, sometimes she still sneaks away to watch her family because she can't help it, and sometimes they still think of her because they can't help it either.
It is sad to think that no matter when one reads this novel there will probably be a child missing in the news and a family trying to adjust to the new horror in their lives.
A very nice book!
