An Artist of the Floating World

Picked up unregistered from the OBCZ in Cafe Nero, Sudbury, Suffolk. An excellent book from one of my favourite authors. Cover differs from that shown.
Posted to Cassiopaeia in Cardiff.
Thank you ardachy, this book arrived safely today. I hope to make it my first 1001 Book read of 2011.
Quite a slow paced contemplative story full of issues concerning an elderly artist's integrity particularly during WWII intertwined with concerns about concluding the arranged marriage of his daughter. I found Ono's thoughts on his life as an artist intriguing but the child was impossible, not like any eight year old I know!!
Two weeks on surface mail! I am impressed. It can take six weeks for airmail to get to Europe from South Africa.
Thanks so much for sending this, I have always wanted to read it but somehow never got hold of a copy.

I loved this book, and am sorry it took me so long to read it.
It was a slow, gentle read, dealing with art, politics, family, memory, the aftermath of war, and so much more. The aspects of a society coming to terms with a difficult past and the way the history is sometimes rewritten, sometimes celebrated and sometimes a source of embarrassment and shame was particularly interesting to me, as my own country deals with similar issues.
Now I want to read more of Ishiguro's books.

Finally read this one. It was a quick read, and somewhat of a slow burn.
Read it with one eye open because the narrator tells you everything you need to know in what he does not tell you.
Interesting read.
