I could have read this book in one sitting, it was so good. This will teach me to start reading a book for the first right before I'm getting ready to go to sleep - I'll never be able to put it down!

I loved the way this book was written. It had the right amount of humour, heartache, and sarcasm.

I am meeting Jamie (jamieh2003) for the first time tomorrow to give her this book. She's in a bookring for it, but is at the bottom on the list. This way it will be going to a person who will enjoy it and pas it on.

Received this today from thescreaming at The Queen City Creamery. Thanks Karry.
promised to HavFaith once I'm done with it.

A poignant coming of age story set in South Carolina in 1964.
The Secret Life of Bees tells the story of Lily, unloved and feeling unworthy of love,
who learns that love can be found in the most unusual places. She also learns that family
isn't always what you are born into but is something you can find nevertheless.

This made the rounds and then back to me...

What a wonderful book! I loved that this wasn't just a sad story of a girl in a bad situation. No matter what kind of background you have, there's always hope for change and improvement in your life. Lily learned that lesson and that family isn't always limited to blood relations. Much of my family is made up of those I've met along the way but I don't consider them any less a part of my family than those I was born into relationship with. We all have baggage we carry from our pasts, some more than others. I was happy to see that Kidd allowed the father to show his love for his daughter in the only way he was capable at the time. Had he not truly cared for Lily, he could have caused all sorts of problems for her and Rosaleen. This book was very realistic and drew me into their lives. The Daughters of Mary are like a bunch of favorite aunts. In the discussion with the author at the end of the book, she says that she misssed these characters when she'd finished writing the book. This was a book I didn't really want to end and I think I'll miss them a little too. I'm always a bit leary of the really popular books, but it was much better than I had hoped.

Now to continue its journey... I'll include this on the next package I send my mom. =)

I loved this book! It reminded me of Fried Green Tomatoes. I really like books set in the South and I hated to see it come to an end.

Released on Monday, July 12, 2004 at Traded to another BookCrosser in Crawfordsville, Indiana Controlled Releases.

My daughter (havfaith) asked me to send this one on to KatieDeMaio as part of a trade. I hope you enjoy this book as much as we both have! :-)

Oh wow... All I can say is I want more of Lily & August and the whole lot of those wonderful women & characters. What an inspirational - if at times heartwrenching - story. I don't feel I can say nearly enough in a review of any kind to do this novel justice. All I can say after having just sat this wonderful tale down to rest, is that I highly recommend this book to anyone with a beating-heart inside them, and especially to those who wonder every now then what keeps it going. Thanks for sharing this one! :)

This will be traveling to Jamesmum!

Journal Entry 20 by Nik-The-Stik from London, Ontario Canada on Wednesday, February 16, 2005
As there was not a Bookring in need of this at the moment, Jamesmum has asked me to forward it along to a friend of hers who would love to read it as well! It will be traveling today :)

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!! :)

I'm a high school English teacher and one of my students (Ashley) passed the book on to me. It's funny; this is one of those books that I have heard is an excellent read, but it never caught my eye enough at the bookstore to pick it up. Having it passed to me, however, made me want to read it. Now I can honestly say I'm glad I did. Accessible language, moving characters, touching story. Definitely worth the read. I'll be passing it onto another student soon. :-)
