This book took quite a while to get into, I think there was too much scene setting and too many characters introduced, but once Gurgeh's story really got going I was fascinated by it. There were echoes of Enders Game by Orson Scott Card, you really got the impression there was more to The Game in the Empire of Azad than Gurgeh was led to believe. Enders game is a better book on a similar theme.
