I read White Apples recently and am glad to have the sequel. Thanks very much!

Approximately a year ago, I read White Apples. I thought the book had a lot of promise, but ultimately didn't work. This book, the sequel to White Apples was an excellent follow up and brought the pieces together. The "rules" of the surreal universe seemed more logical and moreover more fixed in Carroll's ingenious hands. Where White Apples seemed to flounder around and the rules seemed to be changed for the convenience of the plot but not based on any internal consistency, here the surreal turns felt cohesive and preplanned.

I love the idea of a death world created by the memories of the person who died. I enjoyed that premise in The Brief History of the Dead and found it more fully realized and interesting here.

Recommended for all fans of wacky and surrealist fiction. This was an excellent contemporary follow up to my reading of The Third Policeman.

I've now mailed it to someone in the JOE Exchange on Book Obsessed.

I just realied that I got this one from oi-reader, who recently passed away. I guess this is one of the many books she leaves behind.

Finally got to this one - after more than 10 years on Mount Toberead/ how embarrassing!
I am usually a fan of Carroll’s writing but sadly this didn’t grab me so much as previous works I’ve read.
There’s definitely some good parts but there were also times when I felt that Carroll became a bit too impressed by his own cleverness- to the detriment of the novel overall.
I’ll make sure this continues its journey in hopes that it’ll find a more appreciative reader
