Journal Entry 3 by wingGoryDetailswing at Nashua, New Hampshire USA on Tuesday, September 11, 2012
I've chosen this from the I Hate SF bookbox. Something about the cover image of a statue of a seated man piqued my interest.

Later: OK, this one wasn't a favorite. It opened well enough, and even allowing for the catch-up time on characters and back-story (as this is the eighth book in a series), I was able to follow along. But when the heroes wound up meeting an entire country populated by people so opposed to violence that they'll simply stand there and be killed (apparently in-between measures such as passive resistance or even running away don't seem to be an option), my eyes started to roll. Oh, the hero manages to teach them to fight, but the lessons he learns about all the killing *he's* done seemed a bit extreme to me. I'll make allowances that this would feel different if I'd read the previous books, but while some of the characters in this one were interesting (usually, alas, secondary and/or soon-to-die ones), I wasn't intrigued enough to want to read further. But perhaps someone else will enjoy this!
