I enjoyed reading Pat Stone's book. It is somewhat of an autobiography that includes her lateblooming coming out as a lesbian. It is a quick and engaging read and addresses something that is happening more frequently now to baby-boomers who's lives have been dedicated to that tradition of married, with children and no identity.

That is only part of her story. The rest is about her relationship with family and friends. Pat addresses the more horrible parts of having a parent with Alzheimer's. The issues of weight are addressed. Pat was (and probably still is) an active member of PFLAG as her daughter is gay. So there is a lot of discussion about that wonderful organization that gives support to parents, family and friends as their loved-one "comes out."

I truly enjoyed this book. I recommend it to anyone that is studying women's issues. I makes me want to meet this woman who has so boldly lived her life on the page for us. Thank you, Pat.

I will loan this to whoever may like. Just let me know.

Let me first start by saying, I very rarely read autobiographies and biographies, so that will definitely prejudice my review.

This was an interesting look into how one woman realized late in life that she wasn't who she thought she was or who she was brought up to be by societal pressures. I think many, if not most, people either change or wake up in their midlife to some inner needs that have been left buried while raising children, living the "white-picket-fence" life, and/or pursuing their visions of the all-perfect dream life. It takes a certain amount of courage to not only realize that something is not quite right, but to make the necessary changes. It takes even more courage to share a story that will definitely evoke some negative reactions.

Since this is an autobiography, I don't wish to jump on any moral high ground over some of the issues that bothered me. Maybe, in real life, the issues were dealt with and she just neglected to make it sound like they were dealt with.

Some issues I do have with the book are more technical in nature. The editing wasn't horrible, but it sure could have used another set of eyes to catch grammatical and spelling errors. Also, the writer jumped about in time, which occasionally made trying to follow the story a bit confusing. Even so, I would still recommend this book to those interested in "Late Bloomers" and those who feel confused by the issue of why some women are coming out late in life.

Thanks for sharing!
