I bought this for next month's BookCrossing Calgary exchange, which is themed for graphic novels. This was really quite fun, like being a child and evesdropping on the conversation of grown-ups.

From Publishers Weekly
This slight follow-up to Satrapi's acclaimed Persepolis books explores the lives of Iranian women young and old. The book begins with Satrapi arriving for afternoon tea at her grandmother's house. There, her mother, aunt and their group of friends tell stories about their lives as women, and, more specifically, the men they've lived with and through. One woman tells a story about advising a friend on how to fake her virginity, a scheme that goes comically wrong. Another tells of escaping her life as a teenage bride of an army general. Satrapi's mother tells an anecdote of the author as a child; still others spin yarns of their sometimes glamorous, sometimes difficult, lives in Iran. The tales themselves are entertaining, though the folksiness and common themes of regret and elation feel familiar.

Graphic novel about the topics women discuss in their private moments. I will not think of the word 'embroideries' in the same way again. ;)

Very cute - I read it after reading a rather serious book containing a lady's memoirs of her life in Iran. It gave a good background to this fun little graphic novel of a group of gossip mongers.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

Releasing to the April humour meeting to be swapped or put on the shelves.

This little book from the graphic novel theme also works well for the humour theme! It's a group of Iranian women gossiping about their lives and the lives of other women they know. Mostly about relationships and changing customs, I chuckled through the back chatter but still was taken by surprise when the meaning of the title came clear. Very apt though.

To the finder:
Calgary has an active group of BookCrossers that meet to swap books and discuss book crossing every second Saturday of the month at 11am at the Joshua Tree Cafe on Edmonton Trail. We always love to meet new crossers, so please join us any time you like!

Loved this little graphic novel. It had me in stitches - and wishing I could speak first-hand of the sort of intimacy the women in the story shared. Fabulous, entertaining read!

Caught this at our meeting last week. Sounds interesting, and since it's in a graphic format, there's a good chance I'll get to it sooner as opposed to later. Thanks.
