Short ray... hope you enjoy this!
Just received, thank you very much :D Thanx for the bookmark! :D
God, how sad was this book! Despite this, anyway, I liked it. It made me think that not even 100 years passed from the beginning of 1st world war, and my granparents on dad's side lived it on their skin. I just can't imagine how terrible it was, I guess it's difficult for us. Reading about Maisie in that tent made me shiver, those girls were really strong, and it's awful to think to all those poor lads who left for the unknow and the death in the name of their country.
Anyway, back to the book... as I said, I liked it even if there's something about Maisie that I did not got a grip of. Maybe it's just I decided she deserved some happiness which seems to be close but not as handy as I would.
Last but not least, the book is well written, and the author for sure made a lot of reasearch and study about that time, about war and nursing. This made the book really enjoyable.
I guess not right now, but in the next future I'll read more about Maisie.
Thanx a lot for this book, I'll pass it as soon as possible :)

Thank you also for the extra's that came along with it: lots of tea, a note book and a book mark. You're great!!

I thought, this book was a ring and I felt guilty for having it so long and not reading it yet. So, I thought I'd leave a message saying all is well and I'll get to reading very soon. And now I see it is a ray and, even better, I'm the last in the short list of readers. *relief*
Still trying to get to read it soon, but there's not such a hurry now.

What a wonderful book!
At first, I didn't realize it was a mystery book, detective book. I simply loved the story about Maisie's past, WWI and all that happened to her.
I did like the storyline situated in the present as well, the investigation of what is going on at The Retreat.
A nice woman detective, well mannered, well educated, I really like Maisie's character.
A pleasant surprise this book was, and I would love to read more about her, so I've put the next in the series on my wishlist: -)

Short contents:
Maisie Dobbs isn’t just any young housemaid. Through her own natural intelligence—and the patronage of her benevolent employers—she works her way into college at Cambridge. When World War I breaks out, Maisie goes to the front as a nurse. It is there that she learns that coincidences are meaningful and the truth elusive. After the War, Maisie sets up on her own as a private investigator. But her very first assignment, seemingly an ordinary infidelity case, soon reveals a much deeper, darker web of secrets, which will force Maisie to revisit the horrors of the Great War and the love she left behind.
