Back Cover:
Pi Patel, a God-loving boy and the son of a zookeeper, has a fervent love of stories and practices not only his native Hinduism, but also Christianity and Islam. When Pi is sixteen, his family and their zoo animals emigrate from India to North America aboard a Japanese cargo ship. Alas, the ship sinks--and Pi finds himself in a lifeboat, his only companions a hyena, an orangutan, a wounded zebra, and a 450-pound Bengal tiger. Soon the tiger has dispatched all but Pi. Can Pi and the tiger find their way to land? Can Pi's fear, knowledge, and cunning keep him alive until they do?

Yann Martel is a captivating story-teller. This three-part story totally sucked me in and refuses to let me go! I will be thinking about this book for a very long time. :)
This is the kind of book that as soon as it's finished, you want to start it again because you know you'll get more out of it each time it's read.

This bookring was originally limited to 25 participants. I have decided to make this a perpetual bookring. I am enjoying this book so much that I want to share it with everyone. When it does eventually return home, I'd like to see it read-worn because a worn book is a loved book. :o)

I am offering this book as my first bookring. If you're interested in joining, please send me a private message. Let me know your BC name, State and/or Providence/Country, and if you're able to ship internationally or not. Thanks!

I loved this book! Pi's story is full of both profound wisdom and laugh-out-loud hilarity. (At times, I went from laughter to near tears in the span of a couple of seconds.) What a unique voice this author has, and what a wonderful, wonderful book. "I love you, Richard Parker!"

Thank you so much for sharing this, wildflower67. :)

At first I was a little leery about reading this book. The description on the back seemed a little dumb to me - "Pi finds himslef in a lifeboat, his only companions a hyena, an orangutan, a wounded zebra, and a 450-pound Bengal tiger." But so many people said this book was so good, I just had to read it. I'm glad I did. The story is so imaginative. I couldn't stop reading once I started. I think the New York Times Book Review says it best, "Life of Pi could renew your faith in the ability of novelists to invest even the most outrageous scenario with plausible life."

Update: I couldn't get in touch with saltygirl143, so the book is now on its way to jamieh2003.

This arrived in the mail today. I'll be starting it this afternoon.
Thanks for including me on the bookring:)

A fantastical, dreamlike tale. I really enjoyed this book, it felt like a parable to me
though at times I felt as hopeless as Pi for his rescue and his search for the grace of
God it was a moving, endearing tale of the triumph of the human spirit.

I've had this book for a while now and I haven't found time to really get into it, so I'm passing it on to the next person. Sorry I've had it for so long! Next time I'll know better than to join a bookring/ray while taking a literature class...

I sent the book on to lensman today. Perhaps one of these days I'll find the time to read a library copy. :)

This bookring appears to have died. It was sent to lensman and my first email to him, I got the reply that he was too busy to read it right away. I waited a couple of months and sent another which he didn't reply to. A couple of months after that I emailed a third time and still no reply. :(

If I can find another copy of Life of Pi I will resurrect the bookring. I don't know how long that will be. :(
