I remember reading the "Butterfly Bones" story arc in the magazine Shojo Beat, back when they were still printing it. I think the other stories were printed in the magazine as well, but since they were single issue stories they weren't as memorable.
Kaori Yuki's pacing has definitely improved in her Earl Cain books; it seems like she's "tightening up" the plot to make a stronger mystery series.
