Yet another book by Durrell. I obviously trust fellow BXer ronsar's taste. ;-)

Just started reading the book yesterday on the way home from work.

The book is what you get when you combine a passionate nature lover, a big weird family and a Greek island. His description of the animals, the way he captured them, their habits and characteristics were fascinating! The interaction of the animals with the family was hilarous, but one should expect such incidents with so many colorful characters and so many animals in one household. I loved how he developed each character of the family, even animals that joined the household and changed their lives in so many ways.
There so many great secondary characters on the book too that they were lovely: Spiro with his bad English but his helpful attitude, Theodore with his weird way of speaking, Kralefsky with his affection for birds and others,the convict Kostis, Lugaretzia the maid.
And I have to admit I will remember some parts of the book for a long time, like the description of Antinniotisa, the incident with Mother's new swimming suit, the fight of the mantid and the gecko and the party at the end of the book, they were all brilliant!
In general, it was a great book, fun to read and different from most of the books I've read. It also has a bit of his own history, Luz used to read parts of it to me and I really enjoyed it! So, I have to thank her for the whole experience.
