I still need to read this but will be releasing it afterwards. I made the mistake of watching most of the TV adaptation before reading it - something I normally avoid at all costs!
I enjoyed this a lot - having seen parts of the TV adaptation didn't seem to detract from it. It was funny though because even towards the end of the book I recognised sequences from the screen version, but I had completely forgotten the main storyline. If there was one! This was a very complex knit of overlapping stories all revolving around the life of Lorimer Black. In a way it was a slightly unsatisfactory ending because you didn't get to find out exactly what the dirty dealings were that he was investigating for most of the book, you only knew what his theories were. But that's a small complaint - I often read and enjoy books with much more ambiguous endings (Life of Pi, Atonement spring to mind). I loved Boyd's writing, sometimes quick-flowing dialogue, sometimes poetic descriptions of the season. Good characters too - Lorimer/Milo was very compelling.
I'm sending this to vi0let now - she accepted it on the bookrelay site. Oh, and vi0let, you don't need to send it back to me now because I've read it at last - promising it to you gave me the necessary motivation!
