I received this book from a Mystery Gifter, who unfortunately preferred to remain anonymous. Thank you very much, whoever you are!!!! It looks very interesting!!
From the back cover: "An exhilirating, side-splitting account of India today, as well as an eloquent howl at her many injustices. Adiga enters the literary scene resplendent in battle dressand ready to conquer. Let us bow to him."

What a terrific book! Funny, but also sad in that it shows the poverty and terrible corruption in India. It's unbelievable that this is a description of India in the 21st century! An absolute "must read"!

I finished the book a couple of days ago but have been avoiding the JE because I don't quite know what to think. The subject is certainly very interesting, the book is written well, too. But I'm a bit bothered. The main character seems very selfish, but then aren't we all? everybody tries to get ahead in life, improve their situation, etc. BUT: at what cost? I understand that life in India is very different from life in Europe, but the book seems to portrait that in India, you either live your life in a non-violent, non-manipulative way and won't change your situation. Or you manipulate everybody and even go as far as violence just to change your life situation. I'm not sure that's a very accurate picture of life in India. But then again, what do I know about life in India? Not much I suppose.
Sorry, I'm rambling. I'm just very confused as to how I liked this book. :-)
Very interesting read in any case, so thanks again for passing the book on to me!

Another wishlist granted! Thank you very much.

I thought it was a "funny" story in a strange kind of way. This was written well (as compared to his other book) and I quite enjoyed it.
